James Perry

of Conway, AR

October 27, 1942 - December 24, 2023

James M Perry, 81, of Conway, Arkansas passed away on December 24, 2023 at his home with his family around him.

He was born on October 27, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Vera and Frank Perry. James was a dedicated husband, stepfather and brother who will be deeply missed by his loved ones.

James led a remarkable life filled with love, faith and a passion for aviation. He was known for his caring honest nature, always putting others before himself. As a Christadelphian, James was devoted to his faith and enjoyed attending Bible schools, where he expanded his knowledge of the scriptures. ln fact, he could recite most of the scriptures from memory, showcasing his deep understanding and commitment.

ln addition to his faith, James had a keen interest in flying. He cherished his time with his pilot friends, gathering for lunch with them multiple times a week. James was rated in 33 different aircraft and had a love for flying that spanned decades. His dedication to aviation led him to pursue a career as a private pilot and acquire a vast array of certifications. Unfortunately, health issues forced him to stop flying while he was working toward his commercial license.

James' love for flying was matched only by his love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Newton Perry of Conway, Arkansas. He was a loving stepfather to John (Chris) Newton and wife, Amy of Greenbrier, Arkansas and stepdaughter, Brandi Newton Walker of Rogers, Arkansas. He is also survived by sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Phillip Lucas of Greenbrier; step-niece, Brittany Lucas of Conway Arkansas; his step-grandchildren, Sarah Newton and Anna Newton of Greenbrier, Arkansas; Clara, Grayson and Ruthie Wardlaw of Rogers, Arkansas and his sister, Linda Swartz of Maumelle, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister.

James educational journey included attending Levi Elementary, Central High School and the University of Little Rock (ULAR), where he studied computer programming for over 40 years before retiring in 2003.

Outside of his professional and military endeavors, James enjoyed various hobbies, including flying, antiquing, spending time with his chihuahuas, sitting by the pool with family and friends, Sunday drives and going on cruises. These activities brought him joy and allowed him to create lasting memories.

James M. Perry's life was a testament to love, faith and a passion for aviation. He will be remembered for his caring nature, his devotion to his family and his vast knowledge of the Bible, may he rest high on that mountain and into the arms of our Savior until his loved ones are reunited with him once again.

A special thanks to his best friend, Larry Page, for all his help with James and all his needs, picking him up and taking him to lunch to visit with all his pilot friends. You were so patient and kind to do that for James and he really loved you for that and could always count on you to pick him up when he had a fall.

There will be a visitation from 1:00pm-2:00pm at Roller McNutt Funeral Home on Saturday, December 30, 2023 followed by a Graveside and Interment at Martinville Cemetery in Martinville, Arkansas with Jimmy Bryant officiating.

The Pallbearers are Larry Page, Harold Clendennin, Tim Huey, Evan Webb, Doug Purifoy, Phillip Lucas and Honorary Pallbearers, Jaxson and Noah Hoffman.
