Denise, I hope the love of your family and all your friends will bring you comfort and peace through this toughest of all times. Nothing I can say will ease your hurt. I am so sorry to hear about Donnie. Loving hugs to you and the family, Shirley Jackson Pratt
Im so sorry for your loss.
The first time I ever met Donnie was in Quitman, when my Uncle LeRoy Johnson took me with him to visit Carthie Lee; they were good friends. Donnie was around 5 or so and I was around 7. Donnie had a little pony harnessed up to a cart that we road on; it was one of my highlights visiting in Arkansas down from Michigan. After I was discharged out of the Army in the early 70’s I lived in Quitman and I worked for the CL Kennedy Construction Company. Donnie was instrumental in my learning how to run all of the equipment, especially the dozers. I wasn’t too bad at running a dozer, but it was soon very clear that I would never ever be as good as, Donnie he was a natural. Donnie also used to make us laugh a lot, one time he made a bunch of us all be really quiet so that he could listen to his favorite Christmas song, (it wasn’t, he was just pulling our legs or at least we thought he was). The song was the singing dogs barking to Jingle bells. We all busted a gut. Now every time I hear it, I always think of Donnie. It would have been nice to talk with him again before he passed. My prayers are with all of his family as they grieve and very sorry for their loss.
My health is not good, so I thought I would let you and everyone else know I may not be there. I have it on my schedule. I want to let you know I am thanking of everyone.
