James Doyle Speaks, 79, of Dixie passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at the NEA Baptist Hospital. Doyle was born at Burnt Hill in Lester, AR on December 23rd to Russell and Wilma Speaks. He attended Dixie High School, where he met his wife, Judy Flanery. He joined the United States Army at 18 years of age and served his country for 8 years and continued by serving in the National Guard. Doyle loved the outdoors. He was a gardener, where he loved working in his garden and flower beds with his wife, hunting and was an avid crappie fisherman. He spent many, many hours at his beloved river in Dixie. He shared his love for the outdoors with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy Speaks of the home; two sons, Russell Speaks and wife, Karen of Van Buren, Bradley Speaks and wife, Teresa of Jonesboro; three grandchildren, Kayley Welch and husband, Raymond of Roland, OK, Aaron Speaks and wife, Ashley of Jonesboro and Kolten Speaks and wife, Brittany of Tonitown; five great grandchildren; brother, Wayne Speaks; sister, Della Ginger and a host of beloved family and friends.
The funeral service will be Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00 am at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W. Washington, Jonesboro. A burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery, Brookland.
Pallbearers will be Gary Cooper, Michael Maddox, Scotty Stevens, Jeffrey Stevens, Kyle Gould and Aaron Speaks.
Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2023 at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
