Dennis Howard McElyea

of Earle, AR

July 28, 1950 - October 27, 2023

Dennis Howard McElyea died unexpectedly in his home on Friday, October 27, 2023. He was 73 years old.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Howard McElyea.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy McElyea of Heafer, AR; children, Genia McElyea (John Mullins) of Sachse, TX, Johanna Welch (Shawn) of Bono, AR and Gregory McElyea of Wilmore, KY; grandchildren, Abigail Ramsey (Dillon), Thomas Welch, Addilyn Wood and Samuel Wood; great-grandchildren, Jax Sawyer Ramsey and Wes Rowan Ramsey; mother, Cora McElyea of Marked Tree, AR; sister, Kay LeGrow (Bob) of Hernando, MS; brother, Gary McElyea (Dana) of Sardis, MS and many other family and friends.

Dennis was born on July 28, 1950 in Harrisburg, AR. He graduated from Shawnee High School in Joiner, AR, in 1968. He owned his own roofing business for over 50 years. In the early 1980s, Dennis gave his life to the Lord. Later, Dennis was called into the ministry and was ordained in February 1984.

First and foremost, Dennis loved his family and he loved people. He had a unique way of connecting with people and making others feel so special. He enjoyed working with his hands and many days could be found out in his barn making unique creations from wood. Each year, Dennis would plant a bountiful garden providing fresh vegetables for others to enjoy. His thumbprint can be seen in his home in Heafer that he built over 23 years ago and all the handmade items throughout, from the kitchen counter tops to even the beds. Dennis was one of a kind and will truly be missed.

A visitation for Dennis is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm. A celebration of life service to follow at the Upper Room Apostolic Church, Tyronza, AR. It will be immediately followed by a graveside burial ceremony at Louise Chapel, Joiner AR.

Kathy I am so so sorry to hear about Dennis. I know he was a good Bible believing man and shared that faith with many. He has many, many crowns awaiting for him from the King. I can not be there today but know I’m praying for you and family to be wrapped in God’s loving arms as you make this last earthly journey with Denny.
