Rene Richard Alonso, 69, of Little Rock went to be with the Lord October 27, 2023. He was born December 19, 1953 in Cienfuegos, Cuba to Rene Arturo and Rosario Diez Alonso. Rene worked as a family therapist for 20 years at Centers for Youth and Family and 20 years plus at Youth Home. With his native language being Spanish, he was available to provide therapy to Spanish speaking families.
Rene is survived by his wife, Paula Coy Alonso; children, Melissa Cary; Jacob Cary (Alicia); Michael Alonso (McKenzie); grandchildren, Mady and Jasper Cary; Archer Alonso; brother, Carlos Alonso (Jolene); nephew, Geoffrey Alonso (Amber) and niece, Erin McIntosh (Rob).
Visitation will be held at Highland Valley Methodist Church, 15524 Chenal Parkway at 9 am Tuesday, October 31, 2023 with funeral services starting at 10 am. A private family burial will follow.

There really are no words to express how much empathy I feel for all of you losing such a wonderful man from your everyday lives. All I can say is that my heart hurts for you.
I knew Rene as a mentor, and then as a colleague. I loved talking to him, and if time permitted, could listen to his stories for hours and never get bored. He had a great sense of humor that often brought lightness into otherwise frustrating situations.
On a more personal level, as a co-worker and friend, Rene was incredibly supportive and encouraging. Although he had no obligation to do so, and didn't even know my sons, I could always count on seeing him watching the live Facebook posts of my sons' band events. He cared about the whole person and the events of their life, even when it didn't have anything to do with work.
I was saddened to hear of Rene's sudden passing. I will miss his wisdom and experience, as well as his kindness. I know he left a permanent impression on my life, that will go on through the years ahead.

What a wonderful character René Alonso was. For a time during high school, we were very close friends. I fondly recall Saturdays when we listened nonstop to Jimi Hendrix albums. René was funny and fun, smart and smooth, and could he heap on the charm when he wanted to. René helped to make my high school years an experience to remember and to cherish. Bless you, René.
