Remmel Dale Bruce, 90, of Sherwood, passed away on October 27, 2023. He was born March 10, 1933, in Lunenburg, Arkansas, to the late Remmel Edward and Earline Smith Bruce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kelsea Bruce Pesci.
He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War.
On November 1, 1956, he became a member of the North Little Rock Police Department as a patrolman and then a motorcycle officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. He retired after 32 1/2 years, the last six years as Chief.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley Bruce; son, Bobby Bruce (Paula); daughter, Melanie Allen (Mike); two grandsons, Cody Allen (Staci) and Heath Allen (Lasea); grandson-in-law, Colin Pesci; two granddaughters, Sydney Shackelford (Clint) and Bailee McKay (Josh); two sisters, Carolyn Finch (Robbie) and Linda Walker (Dale); and 9 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 1, at 9:30 AM, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow in procession to Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, at 11:00 AM.

I worked for Chief Bruce from 1985 until his retirement. He was always fair and well respected. I never heard anyone speak negatively about him. He would always smile and ask how things were when he saw you. I have known "Dale" my entire life. I remember him stopping by our house and checking on us when I was very young. He would take me on a ride around the block on his motorcycle. He was a great family man and will be missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with his enitire family and friends. RIP "Cuz"

He was incredibly loved by his NLRPD family both past and present. We loved seeing him at the annual Memorial at the Police Department. It certainly showed his level of respect for the PD’s fallen. Thank you for sharing Chief Bruce with us for so many years. I’m tremendously sorry for your loss.
