of West Memphis, AR
July 20, 1952 - October 2, 2023
Linda Charlene Houston returned to her heavenly home on October 2, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Lin is survived by her eternal companion, James and their four children, Heidi (Jeff) Hughes of Magnolia, MS, Michael (Kelly) Houston of Lexington, SC, Jonathan (Jaclyn) Houston of Lakeland, TN, Brian (Peggy) Houston of Proctor, AR; their fourteen grandchildren; her brother, Michael (Robin) Jones of Columbus, GA, and her sister, Becky McCain of Vicksburg, MS. She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Jones and her father, Charles Jones.
Lin was born on July 20, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia. During her father's military career, the family moved frequently. They lived in many places including Germany and Florida, although she felt most at home in New Hampshire. Their last move was to West Memphis, Arkansas, where she met her future husband and raised their family. They were married on July 18, 1972 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. Throughout her life, Lin was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, always putting forth effort to be forgiving and keep contention out of her home and her family. The word "gentle" has been used many times to describe her.
Lin was a diligent member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, playing the piano nearly every Sunday to share her love of music. She devoted much of her time serving others at church and volunteered extensively at her children's schools. She also helped her husband run their business, West Memphis Fire Extinguisher. Lin could often be found selflessly helping those around her and showing an outstanding example of Christlike love with her positive attitude and her kind heart. Lin had great pride for her fourteen grandchildren and acted as a loving "Nana" for all, supporting them endlessly. Her greatest desire in this life was for her family to be together and happy.
We are all in God's hands.
What better place could we be.
James, just want you know been thinking about you a lot since first hearing about your sweet wife. You and I go back quite a ways and if I must admit, I’d like to repent at this time for kicking you in the knees so much when I was a little boy. I was obnoxious. You are one of the kindest, most gentle people I know. In the great to have the gospel of Jesus Christ and the plan of happiness, and our knowledge of it. Love you, boy, Steve Kennedy.
James, so sorry to see this about Lin. She was such a sweet person.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Lin was a kind, gracious woman who dearly loved her family. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Lin was a light in this world. I always admired her quiet, steady strength. She left no doubt that she loved her family and was kind to everyone around her. Truly a Christ-like example.
May she watch over you all.
I will always be grateful for Lin's kindness and welcoming when I moved to Arkansas. Her gentle and compassionate demeanor was so calming. Her devotion to her family is inspiring. I can't even imagine the the void Lin's passing has made for her family. I hope and pray the beautiful memories of a life well lived will comfort them until they are reunited for eternity.

My heart is broken for all Lin’s family and other loved ones. She is one of the most humble and sincere people I’ve ever known. She knows and believes in the covenants made with the Lord, and set a wonderful example of living to honor those covenants. We can all rejoice in the knowledge of what the future holds, and as difficult as it can be to carry on with such an absence in the remainder of this life, look forward to a happy reunion in the next. Lin was, and is, as lovely a person as I’ve ever known.
Prayers for Mrs. Linda & entire family.
