Sam T. Adkins passed away on September 8, 2023. He was born January 16, 1926 in Protho Junction, North Little Rock where he grew up. He was married to Mable Stage for 77 years.
Following service as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he completed studies in electrical engineering at Arkansas Tech University. In 1950, he went to work at the North Little Rock Electric Department, where he would eventually serve as manager for three years. In the mid-1970s, he began a 20-year career working for the State Department, United States Aid to International Development. He and wife Mable served in Indonesia, the Philippines, Jamaica, American Samoa and on Native American reservations in Arizona.
As a young man, Adkins played baseball for Arkansas Tech and then in the Little Rock City League for Davis Grocery. Later, he became an avid golfer. He was a life-long Baptist.
Adkins is survived by his wife, Mable and son, Sam. He was preceded in death by his son, Mike. He is also survived by three grandsons, Matthew, Michael and Samuel, as well as seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for family only will take place at a later date.
I remember the faithfulness by Sam and Mable to our church and especially to senior adult programs. We will miss you both and will be praying for you and your family during this time.
