Bill R. Hughes, at age 84 of Batesville Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday September 5, 2023 at CHI St. Vincent Hospital North in Sherwood AR.
He was born on October 16, 1938 in Bethesda, Arkansas to W.S. Hughes and Effie Amberzette Hughes.
Bill was a Godly man, a member of Central Avenue United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and was involved with the Methodist Men's Club. He was selfless and brilliant minded.
Bill graduated from Batesville High School, attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from Arkansas State University.
Early in his career, he taught U.S. History at Batesville High School.
The past 40 years of his career were spent in senior management with U.S. Lime & Minerals, where he had continued to serve on the Board of Directors.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Nash Hughes of 66 years; his son, William Boyce Hughes and wife Debra Hughes of Germantown, TN; one brother, Bob J. Hughes and wife Carolyn Hughes of Desha, AR; one grandson, David Justus Hughes and wife Natalie Hughes of Collierville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Dawson and Maddie Hughes; one niece, Jessica Hess; and one grandniece, Annabelle Cooley.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers are James Boothby, Chris Pool, Eric Hogan, Brad Rogers, Buddy Carlile and Lannie Barber. Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Wann, Charles Barnett and Jim Longenbach.
Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 PM, September 11, 2023 at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse James officiating and burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Memorials can be made in his honor to "Old Independence Regional Museum" located at 380 S. 9th Street, Batesville AR 72501 or Central Avenue United Methodist Church, 1205 N. Central Avenue, Batesville AR 72501.

I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know how sorry I was to hear of your husbands passing. I have so many fond memories of you. And I STILL have the milk churn you painted for me of the Siamese cat, in my home. I see it every day. It’s in perfect condition!

I had the privilege to get to know Bill through my association with USLM. He had a passion for this business and was quick to share his knowledge and wisdom to me as I learned the basics. Sandra, Please know that we are with you in prayer during this time. Bill was one of my favorite people and someone I always looked up to and sought advice from as a teenager and young adult. He helped me with job applications and resumes on more than one occasion and was always a positive influence to me. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
