of Green Forest, AR
May 27, 1949 - September 5, 2023
Jerry Dale Goen, 74, of Green Forest, AR departed this life on 5 September 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas with his wife at his side. He was born in Tuscola, Illinois on 27 May 1949 to John and Frankie (Chaney) Goen, who preceded him in death, and grew up in Effingham, Illinois.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army after serving in Vietnam, Jerry moved to Arkansas and lived 10 years at Tucker Hollow and 44 years on the farm near Denver. He married Jane (Ezell) on 17 May 1980 in Caney, Arkansas. While he worked a variety of construction jobs throughout his life, he preferred working on the farm more than anything else. He liked his cattle and his dogs more than most people and had little patience for others, until the grandchildren came along. While he had no problem pointing out all of the mistakes of his children, his grandchildren could do no wrong. Jerry delighted in teasing others, was always willing to help those who needed it and had no problems speaking his mind. He was a lifelong member of Churches of Christ and preached for a number of them as well.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Jane of the home; his son, Todd of Lexington, Virginia; his daughter, Sara (Justin) Curry of Green Forest; his grandchildren, Ella and Andrew Curry; his brother, Lee (Sharon) of Centralia, Missouri; his cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, 9 September 2023, at Roller-Christeson.
Funeral services will follow the visitation officiated by Larry Anderson.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
The family requests no flowers as Jerry never shared Jane's love for them.
Honorary pallbearers include his nieces and nephews, Kevin Saul and Eugene Coffman.
