of Griffithville, AR
July 5, 1935 - August 24, 2023
Joyce Jane McDoniel, 88, of Griffithville completed her earthly journey on Thursday morning, August 24, 2023 with her family at her bedside. She was a member of Griffithville United Methodist Church and was very active in all community activities. Joyce was born on July 5, 1935 in Wattensaw, Arkansas to Wesley Lee and Robie Mae Whitener Sherrill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years at the time of his death, Emmitt H, McDoniel, Jr.; one sister, Mary Alice Sherrill and one nephew, Steve Sherrill. Left to cherish her memories is her son, Jeff (Amanda) McDoniel; her grandchildren, Ashley and PJ McDoniel and Kayla Turpin; her nieces and nephew, Jimmy and Martha Rogers and Stacy Sherrill; along with other extended family members and many friends.
Joyce was the coordinator for the Wednesday evening children's program at Griffithville United Methodist Church and even during COVID she kept in touch with each family on a weekly basis. She served her community by working the election polls and in the Senior Center. Her biggest love was her home and the farm. She did not want to be anywhere but on the farm. She was proud of what she and Jr. had set up and wanted for their family to come.
Visitation will be 5-7PM Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home and the funeral service will be 10:00AM Wednesday, August 30, 2023 in the Chapel of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Dogwood Cemetery in Griffithville. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home.
Joyce was everyone's best friend. I remember like yesterday how she was the only one who was able to comfort me and still my heart of fear when I was diagnosed with cancer. I can still feel her hands in mine. May the Lord bless and keep each one of you in His love.
Aunt Joyce is the kindest woman I’ve ever met. I’ll keep the memories in my heart forever. See you again when my time is done here on earth.
So sorry for your loss. She was a very special lady who you could depend on to be the first one to bring food to the homes of those who had lost loved ones. Boyd enjoyed making sure she had fresh vegetables out of his garden. She was one of the ladies in the community that he looked out for when his garden was producing.
