August 5, 1943 - August 22, 2023
James Wayne Ramey, age 80, of Arley, formerly of Mountain View, Arkansas, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
He was born on August 5, 1943 to Gerald Arthur Ramey and Dardanella ''Nellie'' Ramey. James proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1966-1969 in the Vietnam War. He also worked as a Ranger for the United States Forestry Service, last serving in Double Springs on the Bankhead National Forest until his retirement in 1999. After retiring, James coached the Mountain View High School Shooting Team. He also was on the Board of Directors of the Blanchard Springs Caverns. James was the first administrator at Blanchard Springs Caverns in 1975-1986, where he helped discover the trails that we visit today. He took various pictures of the trails and displayed them in the lobby of the welcoming area. James had a hand at training the guides; James was an avid fisherman, hunter and was a member of the NRA. He taught young men gun safety, especially to his grandsons. James enjoyed collecting guns; he would pick up empty shell casings at the shooting range and would reload the bullets and give them out as Christmas gifts to his family. James and Zondra took pride and joy in their garden; they would work hand and hand around their home. James loved listening to gospel music, folk, Johnny Cash, Crystal Gayle and the theme from Top Gun.
James loved the Lord and filled many roles as he served his Savior. He was a deacon of both; Foothills Baptist and Double Springs First Baptist. He had also served as chairman of deacons at Foothills and was on the Pastor Search Committee.
James is survived by his daughter, Lea Ann Farmer; son, John S. Ramey and wife, Beth; brother, John F. Ramey and wife, Lynn; grandchildren, Mandy Tucker and husband, Cameron, Matthew Ramey and wife, Riley, Andrew Farmer and Aaron Farmer; two great- grandchildren, Elijah Tucker and Amelia Scott Ramey and a host of nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Zondra Harrison Ramey; parents, Gerald Arthur Ramey and Dardanella Ramey and brother, Jerry Ramey.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 1:00pm to 2:00 pm at Foothills Baptist Church of Mountain View, Arkansas, services will begin at 2:00 pm following the visitation with Pastor Tommy Medley and Brother Matthew Ramey to officiate the service. So sorry to hear of James passing away. I remember him being so kind to Zondra after she got sick and wasn’t able to walk around in stores. He always went with her and pushed her wheelchair so she could still participate in shopping for needed items. Prayers for all the family.
