of Mountain Home, AR
April 25, 1927 - May 28, 2023
Shirley Rubis, 96, of Mountain Home, Arkansas - at peace May 28, 2023. She was the 4th of 10 children born to Edward and Catherine (Ciesla) Lein on April 25, 1927, in Downers Grove, Illinois. She married Stanley Rubis on September 25, 1948, and raised 4 daughters before retiring to Mountain Home in 1980.
Shirley was a lifelong and dedicated member of St. Peter the Fisherman church where she was a Eucharistic Adorer, and participated in many charitable activities. Throughout her life, she lived by, and through her Catholic faith. Her strength and courage were from the Lord.
Shirley was full of fun, spirituality, and faith. She had tremendous enthusiasm, - always finding joy in everything. She was selfless, compassionate, and had a natural ability to positively impact the lives of everyone she met. She loved with all her heart.
Shirley was an acclaimed and award-winning China painter, past president of the World Organization of China Painting, an accomplished musician, seamstress, "culinary genius" (who never let anyone go away hungry or empty-handed), avid gardener, birdwatcher, and wildlife enthusiast. She swam daily until the age of 85 and was a volunteer at Carti Cancer Center. To say she left a "Legacy" would be an understatement. It cannot be summed up in a few words, paragraphs (or novels). She was truly a role model for human behavior. We will miss her dearly, but we are so grateful for the 96 years that she graced us with her presence. We will always feel her love in our hearts.
Shirley is survived by 4 daughters - Christine Falk-Pedersen (Sverre) of Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, Linda Rubis of Venice, Florida, Sharon Melton of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Jackie Zlatos (Joe) of Mountain Home, Arkansas, 2 grandchildren Ben Melton (Tianna) of Wayland, Michigan, Annalise Falk-Pedersen of Sarasota, Florida, 2 great-grandchildren Valarrah and Nidahlya Melton, one brother Edward Lein (Fran) of King, Wisconsin, beloved friends (and "daughters-elect") Linda Lou (Richard) Bricker of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Diana (Laddie) Basa of Richardson, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley, parents, and 8 siblings.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Friday, August 25, 2023, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Father Norbert Rappold and Father Nazarus Maduba as celebrants.
