James Alvin Smith, 83, of West Memphis, Arkansas passed away on August 1, 2023. He was born on May 17, 1940 to Samuel S. and Arlene Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Smith and his parents.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Gwen Looney (Jody); his son, Alvin Smith (Denise); his four grandchildren, Lauren Cleek (Matt), Brandon Looney (Casey), Cara Huff (Todd) and Joe Looney (Randi) and his seven great grandchildren, Miles Cleek, Miller Cleek, Beckham Huff, Mitchell Cleek, Maxwell Cleek, Hallie Looney and Suttyn Looney.
Known to most as ''Jimmy'' or ''Jim'' and to many as ''Papaw'', this yard guru was also the best dog dad to his beloved Basset Hound, Georgie.
A Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church, 215 North Missouri Street, West Memphis on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM.
Mr. Smith was a great man. Prayers for all his family..

Mr Smith worked with my father many years ago. Always enjoyed talking to him. RIP Mr Jim.

Gwen and Alvin, sorry to hear about your dad. Seems like yesterday the Pepperidge Farms truck was sitting in your driveway! Was it 14th Street? So long ago! Just wanted you guys to know I’m thinking of you and I still have the pictures of Gwen teaching my stepson and daughter to swim. Hope you find peace knowing so many are think of you.
