Ngoc Van Hoang

of Little Rock, AR

December 12, 1947 - July 29, 2023

Dr. Ngoc Van Hoang, also known as Knox, age 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has been called home to embrace the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a life devoted to unwavering faith, boundless love and selfless service.

Born on December 12, 1947, in Hanoi, Vietnam, Ngoc Van Hoang was a devout Catholic who exemplified the teachings of Christ in every aspect of his life. He was baptized into the Catholic faith in Hanoi, Vietnam, and was an active and cherished member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Vietnamese Catholic community at Sacred Heart of Mary in Barling, Arkansas. Throughout his life, Ngoc Hoang continuously deepened his relationship with God through charitable endeavors and active participation in various ministries. He generously contributed to the spiritual growth of others, guiding and supporting numerous Catholic youth and fellowship activities, as well as serving in the church choir.

Ngoc's unwavering commitment to the Catholic community and spiritual devotion served as a beacon of inspiration to all who knew him. He found strength and solace in attending Mass regularly, engaging in prayer, spiritual readings and receiving the Eucharist. His life was a reflection of Catholic values, characterized by compassion, forgiveness and boundless love for everyone he encountered.

Family held a special place in Ngoc Van Hoang's heart. For 40 years, he was a loving husband to his beloved wife and together they built a home grounded in love and faith. As a devoted father, he instilled the values of the Catholic faith in his four daughters, leaving behind a legacy of faith and love.

Ngoc is survived by his wife, Hong Hoang; daughters, Jill, Christine, Diana and Aileen; brother, Duc Hoang; sisters, Nguyet Vu, Nga Vu and Viem Hoang; son-in-law, Lo-Ming Shia and many nieces and nephews.

Ngoc's vibrant spirit was infectious, bringing warmth and energy to all those around him. His sense of humor and light-heartedness brightened the lives of many, leaving lasting memories of his playful pranks. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, as he went out of his way to help those in need, truly embodying the spirit of Christ's teachings.

Aside from his devout faith, Ngoc Van Hoang had a passion for tennis, reading and music. He often engaged in friendly tennis matches with his wife, children and son-in-law, Lo-Ming Shia, as well as with friends. Singing karaoke with family and friends, dancing and playing music brought him immense joy. He deeply appreciated God's creation in the outdoors, finding solace in the beauty of nature as a gift from the Creator and Jesus Christ.

Ngoc served as a dedicated physician for over 44 years, including five years in the National Health Service Corp in rural Arkansas before entering private practice until his retirement in 2018. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and care, fondly remembered and revered by his patients.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Minh and Mai-Le Hoang and mother-in-law, Mary Duyen Truong.

A Funeral Mass to honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Ngoc Van Hoang will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR, with a viewing prior to the funeral service at 10 AM. Visitation is at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The family kindly requests prayers for his soul and the souls of all those who have departed this Earth.

Surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends, we find solace in the knowledge that Ngoc Van Hoang has found eternal rest in the loving arms of God. We shall forever cherish the memories of his unwavering faith, boundless love, infectious joy and kindness, praying that he continues to be a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church in Little Rock, AR.

Dear Ms. Ngoc

For, “All flesh is like grass, And all its glory is like flowers and grass. Hay, flowers fall, But God's word lasts forever.” That word is that the Gospel has been proclaimed to you.”

‭‭I Peter‭1‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭

'Dear brothers, you are like a stranger, a exile; I advise you to abstain from carnal desires, which is against the soul.'

‭‭I Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭11‬ ‭

'Jesus said to his disciples: When I have gone and have prepared a place for you, I will return to take you with Me, wherever I am, you will be there.'

‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭3‬

Although we know that our lives are temporary, and we are just passersby in this world, we can't help but be heartbroken when we have to be separated from our loved ones. In the faith that Jesus has risen, and has prepared for us a place in heaven, we believe Anh Ngọc was called to heaven before us, and then we will also see him again in the glorious heaven with Jesus.

I pray that the Holy Spirit, Our Comforter, will continue to bless, give peace and protect you and your family during this time of grieving, as we will keep counting the days till we all will be reunited again with anh Ngoc in the presence of our Lord..

Phlạc and his family.

I remembered the time I had rotation in surgery at Nguyen Van Hoc Hospital with you during our last year in medical school. I witnessed a dedicated and caring classmate who did/ assisted many surgeries, from thyroidectomies to portocaval shunts with our professor, the late Dr. Le Du Khuong.
Rest in peace my friend.

《Ngoc V Hoang MD》
I met Ngoc in 2012 at Little Rock. Lo-Ming graduated from Harding University School of Pharmacy, and that was what brought my wife and I to Little Rock, for Ming's graduation.
When we met, I called Ngoc, Dr. Hoang, but he immediately told me to call him Ngoc or Van. He was very humble, pleasant, quite talkative and humorous. I learned he was a physician in Vietnam but relocated to Fort Smith many years ago. He had to start over to get an American MD license. I admire his hard work, persistence and determination, and of course, his intellectual capacity and sense of humor.
Of all possible things that we could do, he suggested that we should go hiking. So the next day we were hiking in this trail, with a dry or semi dry river bed. I remembered that there were some rocks we had to jump or climb over. Ngoc was a few years older, but he moved as if he was 20 years younger than me. He was very fit.
In Jill and Lo-Ming's wedding in 2017, I witnessed first hand that Ngoc was an excellent dancer. He could dance and twist with rigor and grace.
Although I didn't see him playing tennis, Lo-Ming told me Ngoc was a very good tennis player.
Ngoc's clinic was open 6 days a week, in other words, he worked 6 days a week. He often drove from Fort Smith, with his wife Hong, to Little Rock to see their daughters and Lo-Ming. He was a loving father and a good husband.
Over the years, Ngoc and Hong came to see us in California at least twice. He rented a car and drove around the busy Los Angeles area, very independent, mobile and adventurous.
I received a card from him during a very difficult time of my illness. He showed his concern and love.
I miss Ngoc, his calm and talkative style, his perception on current world events and his understanding on the mystery of life.
Rest in Peace.

Poem written in loving memory of Ngoc V Hoang MD.

《愛的永恆》
喜怒哀樂恨與愁
短暫人生幾十秋
珍惜懷念總是愛
流傳後代得保留

《Love is timeless》
Laughter, anger, sorrow, happiness, hatred and worry,
Are human emotions and experience on earth during our short stay, maybe on average several decades long.
However, what we treasure and remember the most is always Love.
Love survives the passage of time, and is preserved generation after generation.
