Vertie Lea Blair Gregory, age 83 of Dongola, Arkansas went home to be with Jesus peacefully with family by her side on Monday, June 12th, 2023 at her daughter's home in Marshall, Arkansas. She was born in Marsena, Arkansas on March 29th, 1940 to Brice Greenberry Blair and Charity Anna Smithson Blair.
Vertie was a lifelong Christian with a strong faith. She loved attending church as long as she was able. She graduated from Snowball High School. She played basketball for the Snowball Eagles and made many 3 pointers before 3 pointers were a thing. She worked at Levi's in Harrison and Flintrock in Marshall. She also worked at Daisy Queen and Area Agency on Aging. She worked at the grade school and later at Friendship as a foster "Granny" for many years. Vertie loved the kids she fostered as her very own. She enjoyed camping, fishing and being outdoors. Family meant the world to Vertie and time spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids were her greatest joy. She liked to watch the kids play sports and loved trips with the family to Silver Dollar City. Vertie was a very outspoken lady and was never shy about her opinions and beliefs. Her wonderful sense of humor and strong presence will be greatly missed by those who knew her best.
Survivors include her daughter, Charita Langford of Marshall; grandchildren, Dusty Neal (Seth) of Marshall and Bryce Langford (Anthony) of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren, Mason Neal, Karson Neal and Lillian Neal; siblings, Elbertia "Peachy" Jones of Harrison, Allie Mae Jackson of Harrison and Cleatus Mathis (Burl) of Bellefonte; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will also mourn her passing.
Vertie is preceded in death by her parents, Brice and Anna Blair; her husband, Booster Casto Gregory who passed away in 2002; and siblings, Thadeaus M. Blair, Brice Albert Blair, Elton "Slim" Blair and John Alton Blair.
Funeral services for Vertie will be 2:00 PM Thursday, June 15th, 2023 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Jackie Smithson and Bro. Bruce Smithson officiating. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 PM preceding the service. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, where Vertie will be laid to rest beside her husband, Booster. Bearers will be Randall Blair, John Blair, Richey Eddings, Seth Neal and her many friends and family.
