November 20, 1942 - June 4, 2023
John Austin Carlton, 80, son of Austin and Flo Ella Newman Carlton, left this life on June 4, 2023, at Cox South in Springfield, Missouri, after a fall with a head injury. He was surrounded by his family.
John was raised in the Krooked Kreek area and graduated 1960 from Harrison High School. John retired from Alltel and spent his retirement years enjoying the farm. He was a member of Gaither Baptist Church. John loved his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He told "Indian Joe" stories and loved taking them to the farm. John enjoyed mentoring young men that worked with him on the farm, including Sean Turkington, Austin Tate, Curtis Waters, Jacob Waters, and Eric White. At a young age, he taught his grandsons to drive on the farm and drive semi-trucks. John was an avid animal lover. He loved to go to the airport and watch airplanes land.
On May 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Sally (Villines) Carlton. They shared the last 61 years and had three children; a son, Todd & Roxie Carlton; daughters, Shelley & Robert Turkington and Darlene & Mike Tate.
