Junior Amos Cates, 87, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023 in Mountain View, Arkansas. He was born on August 27, 1935 in Agnos, Arkansas to the late Clarence and Lorene (Pierce) Cates. Junior loved the outdoors, he loved spending his time fishing, boating, and camping; but his greatest joy was time spent with his family.
Junior is preceded in death by two wives, Shirley (Jones) Cates and Madlyn (Evans) Cates; parents Clarence and Lorene Cates; step son, Steve Blake, two brothers, Robert Cates and William Cates; sister, Betty Jane Selvidge.
Junior is survived by his two daughters, Vicki (Larry) Smith, and Paula (Allison Asher) Cates, and a step daughter, Lacinda Blake; and a step son Grayson Blake; he also leaves behind two grandsons, Shaun Smith and Chuck (Lisa) Smith; several grandchildren and step grandchildren; he also leaves behind numerous great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth D. Cates and sister, Caroline (Jim) Smith, many extended family and friends will miss Junior.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 21, 2023, 5-6:00 PM at Roller Crouch Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas. Graveside services are Monday, May 22, 2023, 2:00PM at Sutton Cemetery in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
Junior was my neighbor throughout my childhood. He and his family were very precious to my family. We have many fond memories of him. He will be greatly missed, but he leaves his legacy behind in his children and grands. RIP Junior. I’ve loved knowing you, and I will always think of you with a smile. Ginger Hufstedler
