Charlie is still legend here as a cable splicer. He hired on as a cable splicer and retired as one. Charlie was very meticulous in his work as with every other aspect of his life. Always dependable and I never had to worry about Charlie making a mistake on his end when we were making hot cable cuts. We were a team. I was not his boss, but just another guy on the crew and Charlie and I hit it off. Charlie loved to work on restoring old cars and trucks but up here they use salt on the roads and everything is rusted so bad that we have to use the "acetylene wrench"! Also in winter it is too cold to paint out in the garage. In the early '70's, Northwestern Bell was asked to send volunteers to Arkansas during the winter because they needed splicers. Charlie went down there two winters in a row and was amazed how the thirty year old cars didn't have any rust on them. He moved down the next year. I remember Charlie calling me and telling me how nice it was to be able to put a wrench on a nut and unscrew it without having to use a torch or gallons of Liquid Wrench to get the nut loose.

Charlie was a really good friend. I took him ice fishing his first time in late March or early April . The ice was so so as far as safe went, but we got on. Later in the day a big wind came up and I noticed that we were moving! The ice had opened up about 100 yards behind us and was pushing us toward shore and the ice was piling up on shore ahead of us. We kept moving, waited until the ice quit piling up ahead of us, and got off. Charlie never went ice fishing again! We laughed many times about that adventure.

Charlie is a good Christian and loved the Lord. There is no doubt in my mind that he is with the Holy Spirit rejoicing and waiting for us to join him. I was fortunate enough to speak to Charlie a day or so before he crossed over. Peggy called me and told me Charlie was really ,really sick. I remember the last thing he said to me was "I really miss you". We just seemed to alway click no matter what.

It is an honor to have known Charlie and to have spent time with him while he was here. Anyone who crossed paths with Charlie liked him, he is that sort of a guy. When you have a friend like Charlie that you know is in heaven now, you want to spend some time with him again.

It has been my honor to call you Uncle Charlie. You enriched the lives of us all & accepted our craziness. Thank you for loving our Aunt Peggy. We’ll see you again in glory. May God grant you eternal rest.

Uncle Charlie will be greatly missed by all who have ever had the opportunity to have had contact with him and especially his many friends and family.
