Margaret Ann Burks Bass Lockhart, 88, died peacefully March 10, 2023 at Alcoa Pines nursing home in Benton, AR of natural causes. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK, May 14, 1934 to Earlie Edmond Burks and Mildred Beers.
In 1936, the family moved to North Little Rock, AR, where Ann was reared by her parents and her half-siblings, Harold, Herschel and Helen, all of whom predeceased her, together with another half-brother, Bennie Hofstetter.
Ann graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1952 and married her first husband, Samuel Arvil Bass in 1955. They were blessed with two children, Sandra Ann and Michael Edmond. After Sam's death in 1973, Ann married Billy Joe Lockhart, an AB merchant seaman. They were married almost 33 years when Billy died in 2009.
Ann worked for the U of A extension service, then returned to school to become an LPN. She finished her working career as secretary to the chief of Rehab Medicine at the VA (Fort Roots). She was a lifelong Baptist and an active member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church in Hensley, AR.
She is survived by her children, Sandra Holland and husband, Steve of East End; Michael Bass of Landmark Community; step-sons, Sam and Billy Carl Lingo; grandchildren, Stephanie A. Bent & husband, Jeremy; Drew Chandler; a niece, Linda Reed and several great nieces and nephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be donated to the Pulaski County Humane Society, 14600 Colonel Glenn Rd., Little Rock, AR, 72210.
Funeral for Ann will be 1:30pm Wednesday, March 15, 2023 in the Chapel of Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, with visitation to begin at 12:30pm. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Drummond Funeral Home.
Well, here we are, of the ones in our group that used to get together. The first one that left us was you, Ann Lockhart, 3.10.22, then Jan Cash 3.25.23-then Fr. Michael Bass 1.1.24 Leap year at that. I have missed you Ann and now your son. May you both rest in peace since it is so crazy here on earth. My sympathy to Sandra and the rest of your family. It was fun, but there's a time for everyone. I was just thinking of Anne on Good Friday when I was having my catfish I would always get her about cooking me some catfish I have fond memories of her and my dad together and loved her dogs Matt Dillon my dad Billy Joe Lockhart and her family she will truly be missed my thoughts go out to Michael and Sandra and I'll be sure to let my brother Sam know God bless
