Elizabeth ''Betsy'' (Sevening) Mizanin, of Yellville, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2022 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John L. Mizanin, parents Bernard and Sophie (Wrobel) Sevening and sisters Cessie and Jessica Sevening. She is survived by brother Paul Sevening and sister-in-law Patricia (Costigan) Sevening, five children and six grandchildren.

Betsy was born in 1944 on the South Side of Chicago, Ill. Her lifelong dream was to become a nurse. In 1965, she graduated as a Register Nurse (RN) from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. She began her career at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago. (formerly Children's Memorial Hospital). At age 21, she signed up for a time with Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), a government program providing services to impoverished individuals and families throughout the Unites States.

In August 1968, she married John Mizanin and moved to Geneva, Ill. and later St. Charles, Ill. While raising her family in the Fox Valley, she held various nursing positions with Northwestern Medicine (formerly Delnor Hospital and Delnor Community Hospital). Throughout her career, she worked as a school nurse, a staff nurse for a medical practice and a private duty nurse. She also held corporate relief nursing roles at General Mills, Richards Electronics and Dukane Corporation.

Betsy and John retired to a lake house in Arkansas where for decades she was a medical first responder for the Pine Mountain Volunteer Fire Department in Yellville. She was active in book clubs, Women's Extension and other local social groups. Betsy enjoyed entertaining friends and hosting annual summer reunions for her children and grandchildren.

Sincere condolences to the Mizanin family. Great neighbors in Arkansas. Enjoyed many good times with both Betsy and John. We were both first responders for many years. They are missed.
