Gladys Marie Thurman, age 78, of Shannon Hills, Arkansas went to be with the Lord, Monday, November 7, 2022 in a local hospital. She was surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born in Malvern, AR at home "under pink clouds" to Carl and Gladys Brooks.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles "Chuck" Rowland Brooks.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jimmy Raymond Thurman of Shannon Hills, AR; daughter, Shannon Marie Benning of Shannon Hills, AR; sister, Terri Yates and husband, David; brother-in-law, Clarence Thurman and wife, Doris; sisters-in-law, Jean Kazimier, Barbara Freeman and husband, Lon, Sandy Pittman and husband, Willard; two grandchildren, Abby Marie Benning and Austin Benning; one great grandson, Caden Sillon; nieces, Brittanie Lowery and husband, Bret, Brooke Ward and Jennifer Brooks Griffin; nephew, Ray Brooks and wife, Karen; Great nephews and nieces, Michael Brooks, Chris Brooks, Shawn Brooks, Emily Griffin, Owen Lowery, Reese Lowery & Jordan Yates.
Marie grew up in Malvern, AR on the family minnow farm. While in school she met the love of her life and later married him on August 27, 1965. Marie and Jimmy started their family in Hot Springs, AR. Soon after they would move to Florida and on to Mississippi. Many years were spent in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. In 1984 they returned to Arkansas and settled in Shannon Hills. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She loved quality time with family and friends. Some of her favorite things were playing cards, marbles, camping, boating, golfing, Johnny Rivers and cooking for family gatherings. Marie was a wonderful cook. On Saturday, we all know if those Razorbacks were playing, you can guarantee she would be tuned in. You might even get a phone call with the fight song when they scored! She never missed a chance to call close family on their birthdays to share her love. Her family was everything to her and she loved them with all her heart.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Shannon Hills First Baptist Church Mission by the Creek. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
