Marilyn Humphrey Moore

of Benton, AR

September 3, 1922 - October 30, 2022

Heaven became richer by one angel on October 30, 2022 when Marilyn Humphrey Moore left this world to spend eternity with JP, her husband with whom she shared 76 of her 100 years with. Marilyn was a kind, gentle and selfless lady, loved by her family and by the people whose lives she touched. She was her family's source of unconditional love and quiet but unyielding fortitude. Her abiding interest was other people, their lives, their children and grandchildren, their joys and their sorrows and never once would she interrupt them to talk about herself (especially her age she would never reveal her age!).

Born in Forrest City, Arkansas to parents Norman and Madie Humphrey, Marilyn grew up with her sister Normadell, who was to be her best friend throughout her life until Normadell's death in 2017. She married her soulmate and the love of her life, JP Moore, of Benton, Arkansas in 1943. He became a career officer in the US Air Force and throughout their married life they lived in New Jersey, Tennessee, Illinois, Japan, Maryland, Florida, Indiana, New York and Virginia until JP's retirement in 1966 when they settled in his hometown of Benton. Marilyn was active in the Philo Club and put to use the skills she had acquired in Japanese flower arranging when she joined the Riverdale Garden Club. The Moore's church home was First Baptist Church of Benton where Marilyn was a member of the Ventures Sunday school class and she and JP sang in the senior choir.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Cheri Shelby (Richard McIlroy), Jerry Moore, Susan Moore and Melissa Carry (James); grandchildren, Andrew Shelby (Julia), Michael Shelby (Aimee), Christy Carry and Chloe Carry; great-grandchildren, Jakob and Drew Shelby, Tristan (Leslie) and River Gregory and Porter, Jack and Matthew Shelby and nieces, Sandra Herzfeld of Benton, Arkansas and Melanie Clark of Bartlett, Tennessee.

The family would like to extend its sincere and loving gratitude to Carol Martin Blann and Lisa Kaufholtz, both of whom were indispensable in the care of Marilyn in her final years.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Roller-Alcoa Funeral Home in Benton.

To the family and friends of Mrs. Moore always cherish the fond memories of time spent together and although you may grieve the Bible can be a source of comfort. At (Revelation 21:3,4) it speaks of a time when there will be no more sickness or death, also at (Acts 24:15) it speaks of a resurrection that we all can look forward to. May the peace and love of the God of all comfort be with you all. Comfort can be found in our Creator through prayer and through his word the Bible and in Jesus Christ.

Marilyn and J.P. were both wonderful friends to my parents Joanna and Wendell Hall for more years than I can count. I was fortunate to “get to know them” a bit as well, especially during the declining years of my mother when their friendship and support enriched her life in so many ways. I saw first-hand their loving relationship and delighted in the joyful way they shared their lives with others. We should all hope to follow their lead. I’m counting on Susan and Jerry and Cheri and Melissa and all the family finding peace while rejoicing and celebrating their lives lived fully with lots of love and laughter. We all get to keep the happy memories forever.
