of North Little Rock, AR
October 10, 1939 - April 3, 2022
Jackie M. Wood, 82, of North Little Rock, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022. He was born on October 10, 1939, in Wright, Arkansas, to the late Melvin and Tennie Wood.
Jackie was a true patriot of God and country, serving in that order. He lived a full and meaningful life by letting God be his constant guide. At the young age of 17, with his father's signature, he enlisted in the Navy and was trained and served as an airplane mechanic. During that time, he served one tour on the USS Oriskany. Later in his life, Jackie transferred to the Air Force and served in the Strategic Air Command. As a well-rounded mechanic, he worked on rocket missiles. He would often bring his daughters to view the wonders of these incredible missiles. Jackie loved to share that part of his life with his family. After retiring from the Air Force, he answered the call to become a pastor. He attended Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After graduating, he pastored for a time in Sarcoxie, Missouri and a church in Hope, Arkansas. After a time of pastoring, Jackie was ordained by The Church of the Nazarene. He continued his faithful journey as a member of Brockington Road Church of the Nazarene. He adored his wife, Judy, with a love that made a lasting impression on his family. His love for their girls was evident in everything he did. He always strived to raise them with Christian values and the toughness of a soldier. When the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, his heart belonged to them. Jackie will always be remembered for his patriotic colors in life and the love of God he brought to his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Paige Wright and Vicki Tompkins (Jason), and Shannon Redmond; grandchildren, Laura Wright, Ashton Butler (Chris), Seth Wright (Alli), Emily Wright (Ashley), Jared Tompkins, Hunter Naugher and Houston Naugher; great-grandchildren, Brice Butler, Lane Wright, Brinn Butler, Tate Wright, and Bennett Butler; brother, Larry Wood (Linda); sisters, Jimmie Faye Bariteau, and Betty Perry (Sonny)
He is preceded in passing by his wife of 55 years, Judy Wood; brother, Billy Wood; sisters, Sylvia Phillips and Euna Maxcine Robinson; and son-in-law, Danny Wright.
A dedication of his life will be held on Friday, April 8, at 11:00 A.M., at Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery, in North Little Rock.
