ORIS ODELL FULKS passed away at home on Sunday March 27, 2022, at 3:30 p.m. surrounded by family and his dog, Bear. He was born on November 24, 1935, at Pleasant Grove, AR to Jeff and Mamie Bounds Fulks.
He graduated from high school in 1953 at the Pleasant Grove High School and immediately left for Michigan where he found a job working for the Kawneer Company in Niles, Michigan. In June of 1959 he enlisted in the Navy where he spent four years aboard the aircraft carrier Ticonderoga stationed on North Island in California. Upon completing his Navy tour, he went to work for North American Aviation, Rocketdyne Division in Canoga Park, California. There he worked on Rocket Engines. He was most proud of work he and his crew did in assembling the rocket engines that boosted Apollo 11 with Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins to the moon. In November 1969 a cut back in the space program resulted in a lay off 10,000 employees. He was placed on lay-off and at that time decided he and his wife would return to their home state of Arkansas. He found a job with Remington Arms in Lonoke, Arkansas and worked until he retired in February 1992. After retirement he made his home in Pleasant Grove where he enjoyed hunting and fishing or just spending time on the farm watching the wild animals and riding his four-wheeler or side by side.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jeff Jr. (June). He is survived by his wife Ruby Nell of the home, Bear his beloved dog, Nieces Ginger Moser, Cathy Hammill, Delores Whittaker and Kim Davenport. Nephews Todd Forshee , Bobby Joe Forshee, Jason Fulks, Steven Fulks and Jeff David Fulks. Brothers-in-law Roger Forshee and Tommy Winningham. Two special girls that call him Gampa, Sydney and Lindsey Nail.
Graveside service handled by Roller Crouch in Mountain View, AR at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 29, 2022 at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
Pallbearers are Keith Davis, Albert Dick, Barton Foll, Stanton Foll, Royce Turner and Tom Younger. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Rhodes, Dale Davis, Bradley Moser, Sydney Nail, Lindsey Nail, William Forshee, Nick Forshee.
