of Little Rock, AR
June 25, 1930 - February 6, 2022
In the early hours on February 6,2022, T.Sgt. Gene Earl Ray (Ret) age 91, was called home to be to be with the Lord. Dad passed away 11 days, after the love of his life, Joyce, passed away. Gene was born in Sylvania, Georgia, to Lonnie and Ruby Lee Ray. Dad was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters, a son, Richard Ray Llewellyn and daughter, Vickie Jean Ray and a son-in-law, John Robertson. He is survived by son, Jim (Kim) Llewellyn, daughter, Donna Robertson, grandson and caregiver, Jason Robertson and granddaughters, Karrie (Jonathan) Neal and Courtney Llewellyn and great grandchildren, Benjamin, Lilly Kate, and Oliver Neal and several nieces and nephews.
Dad joined the Air Force in August 1947 at the age of 17 and retired at Eglin A.F.B in 1969. He always told me how important it was to serve our nation. He was a true military man. After retirement, Dad worked at Teletype, AT&T and the Lakewood House and enjoyed them all. Dad was a good, sweet and kind man, who loved his family unconditionally. We were perfect in his eyes. He loved to dance and that's how he met Joyce in 1956. They were married for 65 years. Dad enjoyed going fishing on the Little Red River at Clinton, AR and Lake Chicot.
While in the Air Force, Dad played fast pitch softball and pitched for the baseball team. He was good at both. Dad loved calling the Hogs, even though he was born a Georgia Bulldog. He enjoyed going to the games with Mom, Helen and Larry and in the later years with Jason. Dad suffered with Alzheimer's Disease the last couple of years, yet he remained sweet with a heart of gold. He was the best! As with Mom, Covid 19, also took Dad, even though he was fully vaccinated. Although Mom and Dad were taken quickly, we know how blessed we were to have them as our parents and grandparents. We love you both.
A memorial service will be held on March11, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock, AR.
