It is with great sadness that the family of Lenola "Notie" Hendrix announces her passing on January 20th, 2022 at her daughter's home in Lynchburg, MO. Burial will follow in McMahan Cemetery near Snowball where Notie will be laid to rest beside her husband, Norman. Friends and family will serve as bearers.
Dear family of Notie,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I have many happy memories of Notie. I have a great picture of her with her pies at Martin Box. If you want to email me, I'll send it to you.
I loved her funeral. I loved Elvis and Running Bear. I loved the way people could say something. Y'all really did a great job.
Dave told me a funny story on the day of her funeral. He was calling patients for our clinic, Marshall Family Eyecare, shortly after we opened in 1993. He called a Lenola Hendrix. He said, "Mrs. Hendrix, this is Dave Gentry with Marshall Family Eyecare. I'm calling to remind you of your appointment tomorrow." Mrs. Hendrix interrupted him and said, "Dave, do you know who you're talking to?" He replied, "Is this Notie?" Ha. He had no idea who Lenola was. We both would love to know how she got the name Notie.
Anyway, you guys did a great job honoring her. J.E.'s message was probably the best funeral message I've ever heard. I still remember his explanation of repentance: recognizing that someone smarter than I am has a better way of doing things. He compared that to a novice cook thinking they know how to make pies better than Notie. It was a perfect example.
Much love to you all,
Carylene Gentry
