of Marshall, AR
March 20, 1934 - January 18, 2022
Hollie Irene Horton, age 87 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 at Highland Court in Marshall. She was born at home in the Canaan Community on Star Mountain on March 20th, 1934 to Everett Treat and Bertie Goldsmith Treat.
Growing up on Star Mountain with seven sisters, Imogene, Aileen, Willodene, Betty Sue, Henrietta, Charlotte and Margret, and four brothers, Bob, James Henry, Bill and Bennie, life was always an adventure and left her with many stories to tell. After her marriage to Doyle E. Horton on February 28th, 1952, Irene spent time in California. She always called Searcy County her home and would return, living out the remainder of her years close to her family in the community she loved. This is where she would raise four sons, Elvin, Darrell, Jerry and James, and care for more than a gracious handful of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Before staying home to care for family, she worked at Flintrock Shirt Factory where she made lifelong friends. After the passing of her husband, Doyle she could be found among the books at the Searcy County Library, dusting shelves and keeping things tidy. It was here that she could "visit" and make sure everyone was having a good day. She loved people in general and had a soft spot for children. On weekends you could find her growing the most beautiful flowers and hitting the "carport sales". Irene's greatest joys were her family and her walk with God. She was a devout member of the NorthView Church where she could sit with her grandchildren and friends and hear her son, James preach. She could often be heard singing her favorite gospel songs. Throughout her life she was called on to be the Children's Sunday school teacher where she would tell Bible stories and make sure that each child knew how much Jesus loved them. After church she was fond of visiting with her friends at the Harp's Deli or stopping on her way home to check on her many family members. Irene was a blessing to all who were touched by her laughter and kindness. "Her children arise and call her blessed: her husband also, and he praises her"...Proverbs 31:28.
Survivors include her three sons, Elvin Horton, Darrell Horton and wife Cindy and James Horton and wife Jackie; grandchildren, Crystal Horton, Jeremy Horton (Desiree), Thomas Horton, Courtney Brenaman, Christian Ragland (Darren), Ethan Horton (Vanessa), Samantha Ward (Levi), Elizabeth Granado (Jacob), Jonathan Horton and Rebeka Horton; great-grandchildren, McKinsey Ward, Austin Horton, Jackson Horton, Levi Alsobrooks, Reese Ragland, Addilyn Horton, Lyla Ragland, Scarlett Horton, Gracynn Brenaman, Maisen Horton, Landon Horton, Mitchell Horton, Elias Ward, Sawyer Ward and Theodore Granado; sisters, Betty Sue Williams (Joe Dale) and Charlotte Wilson; and a host of others, who counted her as a friend and were touched by her kindness and spirit.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Bertie Treat; her husband of nearly 46 years, Doyle Horton; one son, Jerry Horton; and her cherished family of grandparents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousin.
Funeral services for Irene will be 2:00 PM Sunday, January 23rd, 2022 at North View Church in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. James Horton and Bro. Jesse Switzer officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 till 2:00 PM preceding the service. Burial will be in Rambo Cemetery where Irene will be laid to rest beside her husband, Doyle Elvin Horton who passed away in 1998. Bearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Jeremy Horton, Thomas Horton, Jonathan Horton, Ethan Horton, Jackson Horton, Austin Horton and Levi Alsobrooks. The family would like to thank Highland Court for their "outstanding care!"

So sorry to hear about Irene's passing. She was always so sweet and spunky. I have no doubt where she is now. Prayers for her family and friends.
I first met Miss Irene when she came to Highland Court for rehab. Full of life and so much spunk I could barely keep up with her! During her stay with us I looked forward to work because I knew I would be met with a smile. Through her I was honored to learn about her family and the bond they shared…a priceless gift I’ve held dear since day one. Another grand chapter in my life at work has ended, but the lessons I learned from her will live on in the love I give to my residents 🕊♥ï¸ðŸ•Š
Deepest sympathies to all your families. Praying for peace and comfort at this difficult time.
It comforts me to know she was greeted by loved ones who have been waiting on her to come home to them. The same loved ones that she has been longing to see again. It's a glad reunion day for this fine lady. Loved by the library staff who affectionately called her the guinea woman for her infectious laughter she blessed us with many a homemade cinnamon roll. Irene was a wonderful lady and it was my pleasure to have known her. I send prayers of peace and comfort to the entire family...knowing we shall see her again.
God Bless
