BLACKWOOD, Miriam (Mim). Mrs. James W. Blackwood, Sr., age 97, of Memphis, Tennessee, devoted wife, wonderful mother and grandmother passed away Monday night, October 21, 2019. Funeral service will be Monday, October 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon at Roller Family Funeral Home, 3651 Austin Peay Hwy., Memphis, TN.
Miriam Le Grantham was born November 11, 1921, in Simpson County, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Beulah Weathersby Grantham, and her husband of 62 years, Dr. James Blackwood, Sr. of Blackwood Brothers Quartet fame.
She is survived by her sister, Mildred (Delos) Mahaffey, sons, Jimmy (James, Jr.), and daughter-in-law, Mona, Billy, and daughter-in-law, Cherry, grandchildren, Dana Le (Michael) Wilson, Debbie Lynn (David) Bruce, Brette (Derek) Starr, Britni (Sonny) Cutler, Emma Blackwood, Ellie (Matt) Callahan, Will Blackwood, great grandchildren, Micah Le (Buddy) Legens, Dane Wilson, Devin (Hannah) Bruce, Davah (Jordan) Hand, Dylan Bruce, Wrigley Cutler, and three great, great grandchildren.

I was planning to come to the funeral but the van had a mechanical problem that delayed us a day while in Florida. I didn’t have time to unpack, get some rest, and make the trip to Memphis. I am praying for the family today and know Mim would be happy with whatever her two boys do to honor her memory.

Mim was a very special woman and a wonderful Christian lady. I am sorry to hear of her passing but know she is happy to be in Heaven with all her loved ones, family and friends. I know she was welcomed by so many including my parents, Buddy and Lois Darvas (who both worked for the quartet many years ago) and remained friends always. I know Mim was welcomed to her Heavenly home by so many loved ones and friends. She was a wonderful Christian lady and loved and admired by so many. This lady, along with Mary and Shirley Sumner became the family I left in Texas when I married 56 years ago. Wonderful comfort I knew no on, so they took me to First Assembly and soon I had a large family! I know you will miss her, she was a jewel!
