James Allen Fortune age 74 passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital on October 26, 2017 following a brief illness. He was a longtime resident of Bartlett, TN and is survived by his wife of over 51 years Patricia ''Pat'' Alldredge; daughter Leigh Jackson (David); grandson Hunter; granddaughter Brooke; sister Judy Ward of Liberty, MO; and brother George (Judy) of Louisville, KY. He is preceded in death by a sister Gladys (Skelton) and his parents the Rev Albert Fortune and Marion (Harter) Fortune.
Jim served 6 years in the Mississippi National Guard, over 25 years with the Memphis Police Department retiring with the rank of LT. He served over 9 years with the Germantown Police Department retiring as Chief of Police. This was followed by over 12 years as a security officer with several agencies.
Jim was born in Oakland, CA during WWII and grew up on several farms near Saulsbury, TN in Hardeman County. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1961 where he played basketball. At age 54 Jim completed the 11 week FBI course for Law Enforcement Officers at Quantico, VA; including the Yellow Brick Road run and obstacle course. Jim enjoyed playing golf and hunting with his grandson. He doted on his Grandson Hunter and Granddaughter Brooke. His family and friends were valued treasures.
Jim never met a stranger and he always had laughter and a smile. He was always available to lend a helping hand when needed.

I am sorry for your loss, please accept my sincere condolences. I hope the family will find some comfort and strength in Jesus promise of the earthly resurrection (Acts 24:15) and the renewed Paradise earth, where death will be no more and no family will mourn the death of a loved one as found at Revelation 21:3,4. May God (Psalms 83:18) grant you peace and comfort during this grievous time.

Jim was a good friend. Although I haven't seen him in many years l'll always remember the good times with him, as roommates in the early 60's and six years in the Mississippi National Guard he was always ready to help when needed. My prayers go out to Pat and the family
