Obituary for Virginia Cossey

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia Carol Cossey, who went home to heaven on April 19, 2025.

Virginia lived a full, beautiful life; one filled with deep love and compassion for everyone she met. She cared for all of us so effortlessly, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Known for her warmth, grace, and selfless nature, Virginia embraced life with kindness and strength. Her presence brought comfort, her smile brought light, and her love was a gift to us all.

Virginia dedicated 28 years of her life to teaching at Ellen Smith Elementary School in Conway Public Schools, where she touched countless young lives and inspired generations with her patience, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her students.

Virginia is survived by her sister, Neva Pearson; her sister-in-law, Joy Brannon; her son, Bill Cossey and his wife, Linda; her daughter, Rhonda Hopson and her husband, Cliff. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Allen Gwatney, Misty Kerek, Hunter Gwatney and his wife, Bailey, Isabella Thaxton and her husband, Kyle, and Avery Hopson. Her love lives on in her great-grandchildren, Lakyn, Gunnar, and Oaklei. She is survived by a family friend, Peggy McMahan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Cossey; her parents, Paul and Katherine Brannon, and her siblings, Mary Nell Starkey, Helen Kirby, Oma Hardgrove, and Allen Brannon, and family friend, Monty McMahan.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, AR. A graveside memorial service will take place at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 1:00pm. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Virginia's beautiful life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Virginia's honor to either CARTI Cancer Treatment Center or Brumley Baptist Church in Conway, AR.

A special thanks to Joy Brannon and Stephan & Kathy Lehman for loving-on Virginia, taking such great care of her, and for keeping a watchful eye over her in her final years. She loved y'all more than you will ever know.

Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the love she gave and the lives she touched.

Ronald and Virginia were a big part of my life growing up at Brumley. I have loved and respected them as long as I can remember. They set a fine example for us as “young people.” My prayers are with our beloved Brannon family. Virginia was a jewel. She leaves a great legacy in her family and her students.
