Jola Mullins

of Conway, AR

March 20, 1935 - April 20, 2025

Jola A. Mullins, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Conway on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. Born March 20, 1935, in Mt. Vernon, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Warren and Flota Harlan.

Jola was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Faber Mullins, for 70 wonderful years until his passing in 2021. Together, they built a legacy of love, hard work, and family devotion.

She is survived by her children: Keith (Carolyn) Mullins, Johnny Mullins, and Roberta Jones; grandchildren Kristen (Eric) Woodard, Matt (Meagan) Mullins, and Clint (Lindsey) Jones; step-granddaughter Cindy (John) Drye; and great-grandchildren Walker and Emery Alex Woodard, Ryleigh and Jack Mullins, and Preslee, Luci, Grant, and Alla Kathryn Jones. She also leaves behind many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews, each of whom she loved deeply-and was deeply loved in return.

Jola was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty Ray; her brothers, V.V. and Norman Harlan; and her daughter-in-law, Sarah Mullins.

A lifelong resident of Faulkner County, Jola was proud of her roots-and prouder still to be a staunch, lifelong Democrat. She had a strong work ethic and instilled the same in her children, working for years at Prince Gardner, the Ramada Inn, and the Faulkner County Senior Citizens Center.

Jola was a faithful member of R & C church of Christ, where she loved and rarely missed the retirees' class. She had a sweet tooth for banana pudding, a deep admiration for Bill Clinton, and a love for puzzle books, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. Nothing brought her more joy than ''grabbing'' a Coke with friends or being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She was kind, helpful, fiercely honest, and a loyal friend. Her presence was a gift, and her absence is felt deeply by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation: Wednesday, April 23, 5:00-7:00 pm, Roller-McNutt, Conway. Funeral: Thursday, April 24, 10:00 am, R & C church of Christ, Conway. Memorials: Southern Christian Home, Morrilton AR.

We only briefly met Mrs. Mullins and visited with her on Keith and Carolyn’s back porch. But we know how much her children cared about and for her, providing even more help after her husband died. Mark and I send our condolences to all of the family and offer any assistance we can be to you in the days ahead.

Well, you guys know exactly how I feel about your mom! She was just like a mother to me and I loved her dearly! I guess I have always been part of the family since birth! Bert and I were only a few months apart and our mom’s shared in caring for us, especially yours. We stayed with you guys for a while back in 1965 when the tornado came through. I mean my mom and yours probably had an agreement that if we were at each other’s houses and stepped out of line it was quite ok to give an old fashioned butt whopping! Needless to say it did occur occasionally and it was definitely old fashioned but it was mostly Johnny’s fault, well maybe I had something to do with it. Jola would say “Go cut me a switch and it better be a proper one”. I think parents back then knew the importance of loving discipline.

It must have been a hard life for our parents to grow up during the “Great Depression, and World War ll” but they did and became amazingly strong people. I will surely miss seeing and talking with her but now she has a perfect life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

I love you guys!!!

Dear family,
Jola was a force to be reckoned with- and that made her loved, respected, spirited, and precious. All at the same time.
It will be difficult to adjust to life without her presence. But oh to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior.
We have great memories of our times together- as do Jana and Kristi.
Blessings to each of you - mourn, laugh, tell stories, cry. All are expressions of love to Jola’s long life.

When my family moved to Conway in early 1971, we stayed at the Ramada Inn for two weeks pending finding a home. Mrs. Mullins struck up a sweet and encouraging friendship with me during this time, while I ate in the restaurant each night. I was seventeen and not pleased that my parents moved me during my senior year of high school. But she was there for me, listening , understanding, and reassuring me each time I saw her. She was warm and nurturing and I’ve never forgotten her. What a precious blessing she was in my life.
