June 4, 1937 - March 16, 2025
Johnny Lawrence Peters passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at Springs of Broadway in West Memphis, Arkansas, at the age of 87, with his family at his side. Lawrence was born on June 4, 1937, in Marked Tree, Arkansas.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Addie Peters, 2 brothers, Albert and Donald, and 2 sisters, Annie and Vennie.
Lawrence was raised by his aunt and uncle, Jim and Zora Jones, and lived with them and his cousin/sister, Aline Warren. Lawrence was always a man who cared more about the needs of others than his own personal needs. Even when he started working, he always took great care of his Aunt Zora. He served his country in the National Guard as well as in the Army. Lawrence worked in maintenance at Federal Express and was always a model employee. He had a smile that would light up any room. He loved to play cards, would strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone, and would always invite them to church. Lawrence was a Christian; he loved The Lord. He was a long-time member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of West Memphis, Arkansas where he made friendships that will endure for all eternity. His family, his church family at Cornerstone, and all those who were close to Lawrence will miss him deeply.
Lawrence is survived by a sister, Dorothy Fay, and his cousin/sister, Aline Warren, as well as Aline's son, Jim, and his family.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Springs of Broadway in West Memphis as well as his caregivers for many years.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church of West Memphis for the ministry of The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Lawrence you were good friend and a treasure. Bill and will miss you so much.
Lawrence Peters was a blessing to us all at Cornerstone Baptist Church in West Memphis, Arkansas. He will be dearly missed until we see him again in Heaven!
My parents, Jack and Jewell Voliva thought a lot of Mr. Peters. They are all having a reunion in heaven now. Sincere condolences to the family.
I loved seeing Laurence at church growing up, he was my buddy at church! I drew him a picture of himself when I was little and it said "I'm just sweet old man" and he kept it in his wallet for years and years, I wonder if he still had it in his last few days. I will see him again one day in heaven.
I remember Mr. Lawrence from when I was a kid he worked at Johnny Rye's Grocery for many years, he was always so nice and such a good person. I'm so very sorry to hear of his passing my thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.
I always knew Johnny Peters as Lawrence Peters, Bro. Lawrence to be exact. I used to go to cornerstone Baptist church with him. He was such a sweet man. He loved the Lord and always had a great disposition about him. He was so humble, I never knew he had served in the armed forces until I went to see him as he lay dying. Bro. Lawrence is most definitely with Jesus now.
