Martha Louise Mothershead Harmon passed away on March 11, 2025 at the age of 90 in Evans, GA. She was born February 25, 1935 to Martha and Henry Mothershead.
The sixth of seven siblings, Louise grew up enjoying farm life and family in Pleasant Grove, MS. She spent decades living in Arkansas with her husband, J. Allen Harmon, raising 4 children and working with pride as a bookkeeper and secretary. As a mother of a child with special needs, she was a lifelong advocate for people with disabilities and mental illness.
Louise was a devoted volunteer and donor to several non-profit organizations, assisting Meals on Wheels, the Good Neighbor Center, NAMI, Disabled Vets and Special Olympics among others. She loved to travel around the U.S. in a motor home as a member of the Good Sam Club. Louise was a member of Cherry Road Baptist Church in Memphis, TN when she passed, after a lifelong commitment to her faith.
Louise found great joy in simple pleasures, including crafting, reading countless books and playing dominos. She loved animals, enjoyed birdwatching and caring for beloved pets. She could always be heard humming and singing her favorite hymns and gospel music and delighted in being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, J. Allen Harmon; her daughter, Teresa Harmon and her six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Patricia Ford, Pamela Wiley and J. Allen Harmon, Jr; as well as 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held graveside at Peach Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Pleasant Grove, MS on Monday, March 17, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
