I served in the Navy.

James Otto Dennie, Sr.I am a Veteran.

of Little Rock, AR

May 10, 1932 - March 10, 2025

James Otto Dennie, Sr. began what would be a long and blessed life on May 10, 1932. He left this world on March 10, 2025. He was born to Hattie (Stovall) and Arthur Otto Dennie in Little Rock.

He was hard working and dedicated to providing for his family. He was also an avid fan of the latest technology, passionate about traveling and a man of faith. James was a Sunday School and church member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church for more than 56 years. He was not outspoken about his faith but he lived it every day. James attended Central High School and held a variety of jobs from an early age. He also served our country through the National Guard and the Naval Reserve, ultimately serving in active duty in the U.S. Navy. He spent 40 loyal years as a telephone man, first with Bell South and later with AT&T, which led to a divinely planned, chance meeting with Virginia Council, who was working as an operator for Bell South. They became engaged and subsequently married on June 19, 1965. They were the epitome of what a marriage should be, truly complimenting each other and were married for almost 60 years. He was a devoted husband and father. He was always making updates to their homes and was an invaluable resource to his children when carpentry or electrical help was needed. James and Virginia shared his love of travel, introducing their children to this passion, visiting all 50 states and over 30 other countries. They often traveled with good friends or made lifelong friends along the way. They also enjoyed hosting family vacations at a variety of locations for their growing family each summer. They cultivated a close circle of friends individually and as a couple and many of those friends still continue to surround Virginia with love and support.

James is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, James Otto Dennie, Jr. and his wife, Debby of Benton, AR, Les Dennie and his wife, Shelley of Hernando, MS, Dana (Dennie) Heifner, Robby Dennie and his wife, Tara of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Adam Dennie, Jonathan Dennie, Josh Dennie, Zach Dennie, Jenna Sullivan, Lilly Heifner, Cash Heifner, Reagan Dennie, Anderson Dennie, Graham Dennie, Campbell Dennie, Keaton Dennie and Whitman Dennie; great grandchildren, Alma June and Bowen Lee. James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John and sister, Audrey.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the physicians and caregivers at Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock, who treated him compassionately, with the goal of helping him live his life to the fullest as long as possible. Also to the providers and caregivers with Baptist Health Hospice who did the same during the last few days of his life. A time to visit with his family will be held on Friday, March 14th at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church at 12:30 pm with a service following at 1:30 pm. An Interment service will follow immediately at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Geyer Springs First Baptist Church.

I heard my father John Bryon Dennie of Arkansas and Texas talk about James but I never knew what relationship he was to me.
And I talked briefly with James years ago.
We pray for the Dennies in Tennessee and Arkansas as you grieve the loss of James.
