of West Memphis, AR

August 19, 1954 - February 17, 2025

John Francis Vella Jr., age 70, passed away at home peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025 in West Memphis, Arkansas. He was born in Mobile, Alabama on August 19, 1954.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Francis and Shirley (Arata) Vella, sister Lynn Marie and brother David.

John was dedicated to his career as a Regional Terminal Manager with H&M Railroad for over 30 years. When he wasn't working, he was cooking and hosting family and friends at his home, listening to good music, and golfing and fishing. In his spare time, he enjoyed lending a hand to cook for local benefits. He could always be found at the VFW. He loved Alabama football. John will be remembered for being unapologetically honest with a big heart. Roll Tide!

John will be sadly missed by his son, Johnny Vella (Heather) of Mobile, AL and daughter, Allie Abbott (Bryan) of Panama City Beach, FL. His grandkids, Jackson, Jefferson, and Knox will miss their Pop. He is survived by his other siblings Vickie Vella Murray (Johnny), Ann Vella Fonde (Chip) and Charles Christopher Vella. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces, nephews, friends, and the ones who called him ''grand-dude.''

A celebration of life will be held at the VFW, in West Memphis, Arkansas, on Thursday, February 20th, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. A memorial mass will be held in his honor at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Mobile, AL, March 5, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Marion and West Memphis VFW.
