Ivie Washington Powell Ill, 80, of West Plains, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. Born on May 23, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee to Bonnie Lou Emerson Powell and Ivie Washington Powell, Jr. Ivie was a beloved husband, father, and dedicated Gospel preacher for the Church of Christ. He graduated from West Memphis, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, Linda Kirkdoffer Powell, children Ivie Washington Powell IV, spouse Meagan Powell and Melanie Carter, and spouse, Wesley Carter, and sibling Francis Lou Emerson Fyten. Ivie has five grandchildren, all boys, Dylon Powell, Braxton Powell, Gunner Powell, and Easton Powell of Ivie and Megan Powell. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nolan Carter, the son of Wesley and Melanie Carter. Ivie and Linda have two great grandchildren, Maddie Powell and Oakley Powell, daughters of Dylon Powell.
Ivie graduated from West Memphis High School and began preaching the gospel through fifteen states and helping spread the Gospel in Germany twice. Ivie continued his education with a B.A. from Southern Christian University and then with his Masters and PHD from The Theological University of America.
Ivie was a faithful Christian that spread the word of God for 60 years as a gospel preacher. Through his time Ivie traveled the states preaching the Gospel to congregations, has written for numerous publications, and frequently wrote articles for Seek the Old Paths publications.
Ivie spoke on several lectureships: Freed Hardeman University, The Spiritual Sword, Rowlett Lectureship, Memphis School of Preaching, Brown Trail, and Shenandoh and East Tennessee. As well as extensive experience in radio, television and writing a weekly article for the local paper "The Word of Truth" and a one-minute radio program every morning titled the same, Monday through Friday, twice daily.
Ivie retired from full-time local work in July of 2015.
Ivie attended the Prairie Grove Church of Christ in Caulfield, Missouri, where he later began preaching every Lord's Day. Ivie continued to be available on Sundays for other congregations as well as holding free Gospel meetings where needed.
Ivie's first love was God. He always took time to invite everyone he met to attend the Church of Christ and would take every opportunity he had to inform them of the word of God.
His second love was his family. He loved spending time with his wife, Linda Powell, their children, and their grandchildren who he loved very much along with fellowshipping with his brothers and sisters in Christ. He also loved being outdoors, especially fishing, and hunting.
