It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Matheny, who entered into the loving arms of his Savior on February 3, 2025, at the age of 79. Bill was born in Decatur, Illinois, on October 4, 1945, to Phyllis and Bill Matheny.
Bill's life was a testament to dedication to his family, his faith, and his work. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, where he laid the foundation for a lifelong career. On June 11, 1967, Bill married the love of his life, Velda Clary. Together, they shared nearly six decades of unwavering commitment, perseverance, and faith, building a life that touched the hearts of many.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Velda Clary Matheny; daughter Lora Osborne (Kevin); son Christopher Todd Matheny (Dana); and grandchildren Todd, Annalise, Henry, Alexandra, Sam, McCain, and Hope. He was preceded in death by his cherished sister Karen and his parents.
After earning his degree from Southern Illinois University, Bill began his career as a teacher in the Decatur School District. His professional journey then led him to Plano, Texas, where he worked for 15 years at Texas Instruments. In recognition of his work at Texas Instruments, Bill was awarded the Southern Illinois University Alumni Achievement Award. In 1993, he founded a managerial development consulting practice, serving both domestic and international clients. Later in his career, Bill joined Cirrus Health as an executive, where he played a pivotal role in designing and building hospitals and surgery centers across various states.
Throughout his life, Bill remained a devoted servant to his faith. He and Velda were long-time members of Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas, where Bill served as a deacon for many years, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to God and his church family. In August 2023, Bill and Velda moved to Wichita to be closer to their family and became members of RiverWalk Church of Christ. Not long after their move, Bill was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, which ultimately led to his passing.
Bill's legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on through his family and all those whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A graveside service will be 3:00pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Riverwood Memorial Gardens, 301 Carnahan Drive, Maumelle, AR.
