of Harrison, AR
November 19, 1946 - January 3, 2025
Howard Lee Campbell, age 78, of Harrison, Arkansas passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 19, 1946, the first of 5 children born to Howard and Evelyn (Burnett) Campbell. Howard was preceded in death by his father, Howard Campbell, and his brother, Allen Campbell.
He went to school in Harrison graduating in 1965. He served honorably in the United States Army in Vietnam returning home to Arkansas in 1967 to his wife, Suzy, and son, David, who was born while he was in Vietnam. As time went on, he continued his education, obtained a master's degree, and worked as a licensed social worker in the mental health field. He always had a love for his country and was proud of his service during the war. He always liked to fly his flag and wear his old Vietnam veteran hat.
Later, he married Martha and became a stepdad to Katie. The family moved to Biloxi, Mississippi where he loved life on the beach, the warm climate, boating, and fishing on the ocean. After Hurricane Katrina, Howard Lee was driving to Arkansas to visit family when he was seriously injured in a car wreck. He was hospitalized in Biloxi for some time before returning to Arkansas for rehab and recovery. He stayed in Arkansas, living with his mother as they "took care of each other" and enjoyed a busy life of family and church activities.
Howard was raised in church but actually gave his life to Jesus when he was about 40 years old. After that, he always went to church wherever he lived. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church faithfully with his mom for many years and for the last four years, they attended Olvey Bible Church with his sister, brothers, nieces, and nephews. He always enjoyed the worship and fellowship.
Howard is survived by his son, David Cagle (Kerstin) of Springdale; his daughter, Katie Burger (Brian) of Rogers; his mother, Evelyn Campbell; his sister, Nita Cope (Ron) of Harrison; his brothers, Jerry Campbell of Maryland and Dan Campbell (Leslie) of Flippin; two grandchildren, Felecia and Nikolas and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him and will miss him very much.
Visitation was an hour before the service at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin Vaclavicek officiating.
There was a private burial at Elmwood Cemetery.

Keeping Howard Lee’s family in my warmest thoughts as they all navigate this difficult time. Your memories of him will live forever in your hearts and in the good times you shared.
You were my first love and I always loved you no matter what. We were just kids when we married and probably never had a real chance of making it. But together we created one incredibly talented and beautiful son to be proud of. Rest in peace. Love, Suzy
Nita and Ron, so sorry to hear the passing of your brother. Prayers and hugs for you and your family.
