of Yellville, AR
April 6, 1943 - December 28, 2024
Carl Ancil Ramey, age 81, of Yellville, Arkansas passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024 at Baxter Health in Mountain Home. Born on April 6, 1943 in Yellville, Carl spent his entire life in the town he loved. Carl was a Baptist and was a member at the New Hope Church.
A self-taught and accomplished gunsmith, Carl was a cornerstone of the Yellville community, known far and wide for his craftsmanship and ingenuity. He held three patents for machinery and left a legacy of innovation and hard work. Many locals fondly recall time spent in his shop, where Carl's talent and kindness left lasting impressions.
Carl's greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. One treasured memory is of Carl carrying his granddaughter, Brandy, on his back as they roamed the cow field-a tradition that earned him the beloved nickname "Cow Caw," used by all his grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shelia Ramey; his sons, Tony (Kathy), Robert (Alicia) and Scott (Susie) Ramey; his grandchildren, Brandy (Dalton) Crites, Dalton (Laura) Ramey, Tyler Ramey, Ryan (Sabrina) Ramey, Landon (Anna) Ramey, Maxwell (Bayley) Ramey and Kyler (Lynda) Johnson and his great-grandchildren, Layton Crites, Logan Crites, Kamrie Crites and Adelaide Ramey; with one more great-grandchild expected in June. He is also survived by his siblings, Paige Bradford, Mona Preston, Virginia Griffin and Bill Ramey.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Ramey; his brother, James Ramey and his sisters, Ruby England, Guila Swigart, Maxine Jenson and one infant sister and one daughter in law, Rhonda Ramey.
Carl will be deeply missed, but his quick wit and deep intellect will live on in those who loved and knew him best.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Roller-Burns Chapel in Yellville. Arrangements are under the care of Roller-Burns Funeral Home.
Tony and family,
We are so very sorry about the loss of your dad. Please accept our condolences. Keeping you and yours in our prayers. Your dad was well known and loved in his community. He had a full life. It is never easy losing a loved one. Thinking of you.
Also, we had no idea until we read your dad's obit that Rhonda had passed away in 2018. I don't know how we missed that. Praying for comfort to come to your family. Lean on family and friends for support during this time. Two wonderful people are gone and they will be missed.
With deepest sympathy,
Mike and Dianna Roller
I have known the Ramey family my whole life. My mother, Linda Birrer Garrett, grew up with Carl and Sheila. My mother thought the world of them. I loved it that we got to have my sons trap shooting practices at Carls place. I am truly sorry for your loss. I will keep your family in my prayers.
So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Carl and I are 1st cousins - his mom Ruth is my dad Ancil Davis’ sister
The last time I saw him was when they visited Robert and Alicia when they lived in Kechi, KS many years ago - a good man and friend
My wife Diane of 65 years passed away in August of this year, so I sympathize with Sheila and the family for their loss
I am sorry for your loss.
I met and got to know Carl during rifle matches we conducted at Twin Lakes Gun Club. The things that I learned from Carl and that group, including Bill and Mike Elam, Gary Johnson, Walt and Michael Vines, have enhanced my shooting and competitions.
Carl was truly a gentle giant of a man. He will so very missed by all, especially at the family reunions. The Childress family has great memories of catfish fries and delicious hush puppies, and his sense of humor.
So sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

It was a shock to hear the news. He looked so well at our family reunion in Sept. He was out on the dance floor, dancing with Sheila as I was leaving for the night. It brought a smile on my face to see them.
Uncle Carl was a kind, caring and honest man. It is heart breaking to loose him, but I know he is at peace and well in the Lords arms.
Knowing this I hope that brings comfort to his family.
Praying for all of the family and friends.
