In Loving Memory of Ghassan ''Gus'' Akel
It is with deep sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved brother, Ghassan ''Gus'' Akel, on December 12, 2024. Born in Ramallah, Palestine, Ghassan immigrated to Chicago in 1969 before settling with his family in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended and graduated from Sylvan Hills High School.
Ghassan had a genuine love for working in the service industry, where his warm personality shone as he connected with people from all walks of life and shared in their stories. Beyond his career, Ghassan was deeply passionate about computer programming and video editing. Yet, if you asked him what truly brought him joy, he would undoubtedly say it was the Silver and Black of his beloved Raiders.
Ghassan was preceded in death by his father, Nabih Akel and his mother, Mary Akel; along with numerous uncles and aunts who held a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his sister, Olivet (Joe Ghanem); as well as his cherished nephew, Michael (Crystal) and niece, Andrea. Ghassan also leaves behind his aunts, Karimah Akel and Ekhlas Salamy and many other loving relatives, including numerous cousins who will miss him dearly.
Ghassan will be remembered for his kind spirit, his love of life and his unwavering loyalty to those he cared about. He touched the lives of so many and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and shared memories.

Everyone in my family is saddened by the news of the sudden passing of our friend Gus. We first met him as an employee at our family restaurant and learned that Gus was a hard working, dedicated person who always did the right thing. Gus was a great worker but above all else, a great guy and he will be remembered as such. Prayers of strength and love to his family and friends.
