of Searcy, AR
November 14, 1942 - December 8, 2024
George Knight, 82, of Searcy, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on December 8, 2024. He was born November 14, 1942 in Hagerman, New Mexico to the late Arbie and Geneva Strickland Knight.
George married the love of his life, Shirley E. Holst, on June 5, 1965 at Kirtland AFB, NM. They had a wonderful family and traveled to numerous USAF bases together. She was his beautiful bride for 59 and a half years.
George enlisted in the United States Air Force in November 1959 and after basic training went to Hahn AFB, Germany as a mechanic. He continued this in Libya, Kirtland AFB, Thailand, Bien Hoa Air Base, Vietnam, and Eglin AFB, Florida. After this he decided to get out of the USAF and worked for McDonnell Douglas assembling Jet Aircraft, similar to what he had worked on in the USAF. He also worked for General Motors on a sub assembly line making tops for GMC Blazers. He also worked at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. After this break in service, he re-enlisted in the USAF and served as an electrician at McCoy AFB, Florida. He then transferred to Vandenberg AFB, California and Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota where he worked as an electrician on missile sites until his retirement. He served his country for 20 years.
After retiring from the USAF, he received his HVAC certification and worked at ASU Beebe until his retirement in 2009. George became a Christian as a child at the age of 10, but at 30 put a stake in the ground regarding his salvation. He followed the Lord's leading and witnessed to many people day to day, through prison ministry, visitation, teaching Sunday School, and helping in AWANA. His children have said they grew up with the best Christian examples for parents, their dad being the leader. George's wish was for all people to come to the saving knowledge of Christ.
George is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Gary Knight; and nephew Brian Ball. He is survived by his spouse Shirley E. Knight; son Gregory (Gina) Knight; daughters Gina (Andy) West of Hamptonville, NC, Tricia Oxford of Austin, AR, and Jeannie Meggs of Judsonia, AR; grandchildren Laura (Scott) Neumann of Hamptonville, NC, Yancey (Brian) Peters of Mt.
