of Witts Springs, AR
September 10, 1925 - December 4, 2024
Jessie Mae Drewry Williams peacefully passed from this world surrounded by her loved ones at home on December 4th, 2024. She was 99 years old, born on September 10th, 1925 in Witts Springs, Arkansas to Cornelius Drewry and Sarah Blair Drewry.
Jessie was one of the last of the mountain women. She grew up on Richland Creek. She picked cotton and delivered mail by horseback. She married Johnnie Williams and built a home on the mountain where they raised a big garden and two children, Charles and Linda and they helped raise many more in the community. Jessie always had a welcoming smile and a warm meal on the stove. Grannie Jessie was a strong Christian woman and a member of the Witts Springs Church of Christ. Her good character and fiery attitude made an impression on many. She loved working in the garden, canning and watching her westerns. But she traded in her western books for the Bible. She will be missed here but she was greeted at the gate by an angel band. She always loved to hear some ''good sangin''.
Jessie is preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Sarah Drewry; her husband, Johnnie Cleveland Williams; one son, Charles James Williams; brothers, Blaine, Henley, Workman and Princeton; sisters, Clara, Geneva and Bertha and her son-in-law, Bennie Drewry.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Drewry; granddaughters, Tina Davis and husband, Walt, Teresa Bell and husband, Greg and Lora Rivera and husband, Marcos; three great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons and eight great-great grandsons.
Funeral services for Jessie will be 1:00 PM Monday, December 9th, 2024 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Donald Patterson and Bro. Sage Whitelaw officiating. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery where Jessie will be laid to rest beside her husband, Johnnie. Bearers will be Dennis Drewry, Walt Davis, Chad Rainwater, Aaron Baldridge, Kenneth Blair and Guy Dale Blair. Honorary bearers will be Greg Bell, Andrew Baker and Jessie's Grandsons.
My prayers are with you and family. Jessie was a wonderful lady, always kind and smiling. When Mary and me lived with you she slept on the couch and let us have the bedroom. I visited with Charles twice while he was in the nursing home. Sorry for your loss of him too. Prayers for comfort during the holidays without them.
