of Searcy, AR
October 28, 1943 - December 3, 2024
Phyllis Rae Werley, 81, of Searcy left this world to meet her Heavenly Father on December 3, 2024. Born on October 28, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Augustus Crowder and Ruby Irene (Ray) Crowder.
Phyllis was raised as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, deeply influenced by her mother's strong faith. She dedicated many years of her life to serving at Arkansas State University Searcy in the Financial Aid office, where she found great joy in helping students navigate their educational journeys. Her genuine care for their success made her an invaluable asset to the ASU community, where she formed enduring friendships with her colleagues. Her childhood best friend, Ann Smith, reflects fondly on their years of cherished companionship.
Family was central to Phyllis's life. She adored her son and grandchildren, passionately participating in their lives by attending their sporting events and diligently driving them to and from school. Her family lovingly dubbed her ''Nana,'' a name that embodies her unwavering support and nurturing spirit.
Known for her love of cooking, she enjoyed watching cooking shows, particularly featuring Brenda Gantt. Phyllis cherished travel, often embarking on numerous road trips that took adventurous shortcuts. Kind-hearted, soft-spoken and always willing to help others in need, she had a remarkable ability to lift the spirits of those around her. Phyllis had a deep appreciation for music, particularly Elvis Presley, classic country and 50s tunes. She maintained cherished family traditions, including state-line gifts, sewing and cookouts, which enriched her family's connections.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Werley; her brother, Harold Crowder and her sister, Ruby Jeane Tuggle. She is survived by her son, Russ (Michelle) Werley; grandchildren, Matthew (Shannon) Jones, Courtney (Trevor) Carlson, Cody (Briauna) Nicholson, Tanner and Madison Werley; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life for Phyllis will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy, Arkansas.
