Marcus Bowers

of Batesville, AR

November 4, 1942 - November 30, 2024

Marcus Bowers, 82, of Batesville passed away November 30, 2024.

He was born November 4, 1942, in Batesville, Arkansas to William Dial Bowers and Annabel (Bone) Bowers.

Marcus was a cherished husband, father, brother, son and dear friend to so many. The life he lived was full and those he met along the way were forever affected by his generosity and caring nature. He was a gentlemen, a man's man and friend's friend. As a 5th generation member of the Batesville community the impact he had on business, neighbors and friends was a gift and legacy remembered by all who knew him. He loved his work, and it was his passion. He owned River City Excavating and spent a lifetime operating equipment, clearing land and moving dirt. On a dozer or backhoe or watching them work was where he was most at home. Outside of work his greatest love was Glenda, his wife of 42 years and love of family and friends and that love never failed.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda (Guthrie) Bowers of the home; two sons, Marc Bowers (Aida) of McLean, Virginia, Blake Henthorne (Jennifer) of Little Rock; two daughters, Stephanie Glenn (Lance) of Barling, Arkansas, Stacie Clyburn of Little Rock, and; one sister, Georgeann Hicks of Batesville; five grandchildren, Mackenzie Calhoon (Austin), Madison Watkins, Connor Bowers, Riley Beneux (Logan) and Sara Bowers; one great-grandchild, Isabella Beneau, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers are Chance Jackson, Spencer Jackson, Chad Guthrie, Ryan Guthrie, John Showalter, and Chris Anderson. Honorary pallbearers are Legacy Hospice, Janice Benton, John Arceneaux, Bill Hicks, and the Supper Club.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 2:00pm at the First United Methodist Church with John High officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon until the service time.

Memorials may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Human Society of Independence County, 5 Environmental Drive, Batesville, AR 72501

Dear Family, he was a dear cousin, whom I remember so well! We were children together, and to some extent, grew up together. I shall never forget the many summers we spent together, w/ 3 other cousins, who were kin. Good memories. Rest well, Marcus. Prayers and Love to the rest of the family.

HI GLENDA
I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Marcus. We have been friends since Batesville High School. I last visited with Marcus a few years back when I met him and Jerry Waugh at the Restaurant by the Dam. We had a great visit and of course talked a lot about old times. I will miss him and I know you will also and have some adjusting to do.
The Best to you and Family.

There are no words to express the sorrow felt for the loss of such a great man. Memories of Mr. Bowers’ infectious laughter and ever-present welcome into his home are fond reminders of years past. All who loved and respected Mr. Bowers are in our thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort in the knowledge that he awaits us on the other side with laughter, good cheer, and a welcoming smile.

With deepest sympathy,
The Stillwell Family
