Janet Hughes, 80, of Benton, Arkansas passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2024. She fought a courageous battle with kidney disease. Janet was born on April 13, 1944 in Medford, Oregon. She was blessed with two children; Joe Murdock (Teri) of Benton, Arkansas and Shelley Murdock of York, South Carolina.
She worked for Dr. Harold Hedges in healthcare for many years. After retiring, she took up quilting and made many quilts for her family. She was a wonderful mother, sister and grandmother and loved to spoil all the grands and greats.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Hughes; a grandson, Jackson McMahan and a step-grandson, C.J. Hughes.
She is survived by one son; Joe Murdock (Teri) and one daughter, Shelley Murdock; a sister, Peggy Whisenhunt (Don) of Texarkana, TX; a half-sister, Gay Hull (Jerry) of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; a stepdaughter, Sheri Gunn (Justin) of Dallas, Texas; two stepsons, Lee Hughes of England, Arkansas and Carl Hughes (Monica) of Cabot, Arkansas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Aaryn Strain (Caleb), Joe Murdock II (Jacie), James Lepone (Anna), Patrick, Aiden, Myla McMahan, Jacob Hughes (Mattie), Braedon, Mason, Rileigh Gunn, Josh Hughes, Aspen, Maxie Hughes; her great-grandchildren, Asher Strain, Lily Hughes and Piper Hughes (Due in 2025), several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend an invitation to celebrate the life of Janet Hughes on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Roller-Alcoa Funeral Home in Benton, Arkansas at 9:00AM for visitation followed by the service at 10:00AM. Graveside services will be at Marvin Cemetery, located at 250 LR 51 South in Foreman, Arkansas at 2:00PM.
A special Thank You to Gentiva Hospice for their loving care in her last few days.
She had many many visits from old friends and family, including an unexpected visit from her half-sister, Gay that she has not seen in many years. She was also able to see a picture of her great-grandchild, Asher, who was born 3 days before her death.
