Mary Zarife Ysrael Borgaily

of Little Rock, AR

October 23, 1953 - October 2, 2024

Mary Zarife Ysrael Borgaily, 70, of Little Rock, passed away on Wednesday October 2, 2024. She was born in Manila, Philippines on October 23, 1953 to the late Najib Borgaily and Abdona Ysrael Borgaily. As a child, Mary knew she wanted to be a nurse to help those who were ailing. She pursued her dream of becoming a nurse, and in 1975, Mary graduated with her bachelors degree in nursing from St. Paul College in Manila, Philippines. It was during her clinical rotations in college where Mary found her calling in caring for suffering critically ill premature babies and newborns in the Neonatal ICU who were in need of compassion and care. Mary worked for 34 years in Arkansas Children's Hospital until her retirement in 2010.

Mary is predeceased by her dear brother Joseph Borgaily, half-sister Claire Frances Borgaily, Uncles Ibrahim Borgaily, Habib Borgaily, George Ysrael, Phillip Ysrael, Alexander Ysrael, Anthony Ysrael, John Ysrael, Joseph Ysrael, Aunts Najibe Borgaily, Zarife Borgaily, and her loving Aunt Georgette Ysrael who raised her with her grandmother, ''Sitte'' after her mother passed away when Mary was just a toddler. She is survived by her loving half sister Anne Borgaily Davy and her husband Andy Davy of the UK, half brothers Victor Borgaily and Paul Najib Borgaily of the Philippines, nieces Danie Borgaily Corales and Ariana Borgaily of California, Gabi Borgaily Soliven of the Philippines, grand niece Anna Gianina Soliven, nephew Sandro Borgaily of the Philippines, sister-in-law Samie Borgaily of Texas, her loving Aunt Jessie of New Jersey, close cousins John Ysrael of New Jersey, Donna Rex of California, and Frances Ysrael-Valtierra and her husband Andy Valtierra of Washington. She loved and was loved by so many friends especially long time fellow nurses Rosie Searle and Kate Evans of Arkansas, and Jean Patch of the UK, dear high school buddies Ginny Brion Garza of Virginia, Des Brion Alba of Texas, and Angie Calderon Palomar of Texas, and numerous godchildren.

Throughout her life, Mary rescued and adopted several dogs, all of whom she loved dearly. She also leaves behind her ''fur babies'' - dogs Benny and Bailey. Mary also loved tending to her garden, and looked forward to the spring when her flowers came to bloom. Mary volunteered at Holy Sews, a ministry which makes handmade layettes for miscarried or stillborn babies and provides education and support to communities in various parts of the United States.

Rosary will be held at the Roller-Drummond Funeral home on Saturday October 26, 2024 from 04:00 PM-4:30 PM, followed by visitation from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church on Tuesday October 29, 2024 at 10 AM, followed by inurnment at the columbarium at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church.

Livestream and a recording of the funeral mass will be available at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church's YouTube channel.

There will also be a tribute for Mary by the Arkansas Nurses Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church at holysouls.org or to the Humane Society of Pulaski County, Arkansas.

My Dearest Friend of over 44yrs, accross the miles, a friend like you was hard to find. From the minute we met you were there to help when I needed it most. How we had our fun times while living together in Little Rock with our beloved dogs Lady & Zeno.
Your friendship and the memories of our times together will always be cherished and never forgotten. Your lovely smile, laugh, cheerfulness, kindness and knowing you were always there during the good and bad times. You never complained when you struggled with your health and never let anything stop you, giving your love and kindness to your dear pups at all times no matter what. You will be greatly missed my friend.
How you loved the ocean when you came to the UK and liked nothing more than sitting watching the sea and the swans in the local park, whilst looking forward to roast lamb at a local restaurant!
How excited you were to be maid of honour at my wedding and how wonderful it was to have you there.
So lucky i am to have known a friend like you.
Now you fly with Butterflies and take with you a piece of my heart.
Rest in peace my Dear Friend.
Heavenly hugs Jean xx

We all remember Mary as a kind, sweet and gentle classmate. Surely these traits benefited the many babies and children that she cared for as a nurse. May the Lord grant her the eternal rest grant that she richly deserves

Mary, my love- You have been in our lives and in our hearts since grade school. As my little sister's classmate, you became my little sister too! The wonderful memories we built together- the hopes and dreams- you have lived a full life and made you mark on the earth and on all around you with your love. You gave of your person and strength for as long as you could to the babies in the NICU.
I would, if I could, hold on to you forever but God has called you back home. I can only imagine that it is indeed home for you with a wonderful loving welcome by your dear mom, your beloved dad, bug brother Joey and baby sister Claire, who you always kept close to your heart. You are indeed beyond all pain and in God's loving embrace!

Gentle Mary, I love you dearly and I will miss you just as dearly.
You have lived a life so selfless, dedicated to God’s little children, helpless, sometimes abandoned, but never alone, as long as you were there to care for them.
There are many whose lives you have touched in countless ways. Now they are with you in prayer as you begin your journey home, back to the Father who loves you even more dearly.
Even as your body betrayed you, you found ways to continue your work for the little ones, through Holy Sews, through caring for GB, and probably other ways that I do not know about, but which would not surprise me.
Go gently, my friend, into the arms of your Beloved. You have earned your rest, you have earned your place in heaven...
I can almost hear Him saying: “Good and gentle servant of others, you have done well. Come and rest in My embrace.”
I am honored to have you call me your friend, your sister.
