of Marshall, AR
March 10, 1935 - October 11, 2024
Clifton Leon Ragland, age 89, of Marshall was born into the family of Eugene Ragland and Verlie Millie Estella Freeman Ragland on March 10th, 1935 in Grandview, Arkansas. He passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on October 11th, 2024 at Highland Court in Marshall.
Clifton was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict as well as the Vietnam War. He was a drywaller by trade and worked in many states. Clifton loved people and he loved family, including his large extended family. He enjoyed coon hunting and had one of the best dogs in the land with Silver Tip. He also enjoyed fishing. He and his father-in-law, Jimmy would catch a stringer of goggle eye then Walsie would cook them up. He thought a Zebco 33 was the best rod and reel ever. Clifton was a good ginseng hunter and taught his brother-in-law, Ellis how to hunt ginseng. Ellis was then addicted. The number of kids Clifton taught to jump off the big rock and swim in the Buffalo River at Maumee is many. So many kids that are now adults have heard the story told by Cliff of 'Ole Speck and 'Ole Spot and the fish on the bicycle. He loved going to ballgames, especially the years that Dewayne, Mike, Marcus and Hughy played. Clifton's memory will be carried on by family and loved ones.
Left to carry on Clifton's memory is his wife of 64 years, Shirley Smith Ragland; daughter, Denna Riggins (Alan); son, Travis Ragland (Meri); honorary son, Michael Blackwell; grandkids, Joy Rosales, Mindy Moore (Blake), April Wilson, Chad Wilson, Jenny Ragland, Callie Ragland and Beckett Ragland; honorary grandkid, Sophia Blackwell; great-grandkids, Hope, Macy, Hailey, Leila, Ava, Allie and Connor; honorary great-grandkid, Brooklyn; siblings, Wilbur Ragland, Alice Simpkins and Anna Cunningham and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will also mourn his passing.
Clifton is preceded in death by his parent, Eugene and Verlie Ragland and siblings, Hubert Stanley Ragland, Johnny Franklin ''Frank'' Ragland and Vivian Ragland.
Funeral services for Clifton will be 2:00 PM Monday, October 14th, 2024 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Michael Blackwell and Guy Dale Blair officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 till 2:00 PM preceding the service. Clifton will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery with military honors. Bearers will be Alan Riggins, Hughy Ragland, Junior Busbee, Travis Ragland, Blake Ferris and Jimmy Lynn Horton. Honorary bearers will be Bill Lynch, Randall Freeman and the caregivers at Highland Court.
