of Conway, AR
July 22, 1935 - September 29, 2024
Carl Lee Woods was born July 22, 1935 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma to Virgil and Irene Woods. He lived in Oklahoma until marrying and moving to Conway, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley (Amyx) Woods; brother, Raymond Woods and two sisters, Ruth Rainwater and Shirley Wharton. Carl worked for Dean's Milk Company until they closed in Conway and then opened and operated Woods Well Drilling Company, providing water well drilling services in central Arkansas for decades.
Carl enjoyed meeting people all over central Arkansas and providing water well services for them, usually witching or detecting where water was available underground. His goal was to locate sufficient water so all he helped could live on property with the basic service of running water. He raised cattle and provided hay bailing services for many in the community and was always available to help any of them with a sick animal, broken fence or general need. Carl was never one to rest and always had plenty of areas needing attention and his time. One of his only areas to make an exception to work was deer hunting and he enjoyed serving as president of his deer camp, City of Conway Hunting Club, for decades. His other exception and enjoyment was attending his grandchildren's sporting events and being a supporter of their activities.
Carl is survived by a sister, Glenna (Dalton) Stallings of Calera, OK; brothers, Cliff Woods, Arlington, TX, Kenneth Woods, Avery, TX and Dewayne Woods, Little Rock; daughter, Karla Cook; son, Doug Woods (Jennifer) of Conway; grandchildren, Carson Cook, Jace Woods, Cassidy Cook and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family to treasure happy memories of him.
Visitation will be held at Pickles Gap Baptist Church from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 and the funeral service will be at 10:30am at Pickles Gap Baptist Church, 2 Pickles Gap Road, Conway, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 with Brother Larry White officiating. Pallbearers will be Brant Holland, Tate Moore, Max ''Doc'' Dollar, Glenn Woods, Cody Beene, Jim Adkisson, Terry Williams and Judge Jim Baker. Honorary pallbearers Carson Cook, Jace Woods and Dr. Landon Bruich. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pickles Gap Baptist Church, 2 Pickles Gap Road, Conway, AR 72032.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Tyrone Lee, Dr. Don Steely, Dr. Randall Bowlin, Dr. Dave Naylor and their staffs for loving care and friendship to help make the journey to 89 years old pleasurable. Thanks to Conway Regional Hospital and Heritage Living Center staff for their compassion and support.
