Well-known Family Practitioner of Medicine for Over 50 Years in Mountain Home Has Died.
Dr. William Robert Snow, 92, passed away Friday, September 6, 2024 in Mountain Home. He was born in Hardy, Arkansas on February 29, 1932 to William Wasson and Oleta Snow. He was the oldest of three boys.
Dr. Snow moved to Mountain Home at the age of nine as his father worked on the construction of the Norfork Dam. He graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1950, where he played football and basketball for the Bombers. Dr. Snow received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1954 from the University of Arkansas. He entered medical school at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock where he received a Master of Science degree and graduated in 1958 with a Doctor of Medicine. While in medical school he served as the medical resident at the Arkansas School for the Blind and worked summers on Sitkinak Island, Alaska. After medical school, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam for two years and held the rank of Captain. After the Air Force, Dr. Snow moved back to Little Rock to complete his residency at UAMS. In 1962, he moved to Mountain Home where he began and co-owned the Mountain Home Medical Group.
''He loved being a doctor and giving back to his community,'' stated his brother, Wasson Snow.
Dr. Snow, a well-known physician in Mountain Home for over 45 years, was one of the first four physicians at Baxter General Hospital (BGH) which opened in 1963. He served as Chief of Staff at Baxter General Hospital several times as well as serving on its board of directors. Dr. Snow understood the importance of education and served on the Mountain Home School Board for many years. Dr. Snow was inducted into the inaugural class of the Mountain Home Education Foundation Hall of Honor. He was also a long-time physician for the Mountain Home Bomber's sports teams. Additionally, Dr. Snow served as Baxter County Coroner for over 35 years and served on the Arkansas State Crime Lab board of directors.
While Dr. Snow spent most of his time delivering thousands of babies in the area and caring for a variety of illnesses, he was also an entrepreneur. Throughout his life, Dr. Snow operated several businesses including an ice-producing company, a meat processing facility and owned and operated the Farm Center in Gassville. He raised Santa Gertrudis cattle from the Rockefeller Ranch, he was an avid gardener, loved to water ski and was a fan of Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). He loved music and enjoyed attending shows at Arkansas State University at Mountain Home. On most Fridays, you would find Dr. Snow at Walker's auction house as he loved a great bargain.
Dr. Snow was married to the late Leta Minton for 64 years and is survived by his brother, Wasson Snow of Little Rock and three daughters, Melissa Snow-Clark and husband, Jesse Clark of Hoover AL, Mandy Doty of Springfield MO and Elaine Snow of Gamaliel, Arkansas. He also has one grandson, James Legier Clark of Hoover Alabama and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Snow is preceded in death by his wife; brother, Tommy Snow and his parents.
A visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Mountain Home with family receiving friends at 1:00pm Sunday, September 15th with a memorial service to follow. Inurnment will be at Baxter Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Mountain Home Education Foundation, Food Bank of NCA, MH Food Basket, Serenity House, Hospice of the Ozarks, PBS, Salvation Army, ASUMH, Sparks Gamma House or any charity of your choice.

Peace to Bill and Letas' family. I've been a friend of Bill's since we were medical students at the U of A.
We were room mates during our internship at the university hospital and I was privileged to be best
man in Bill And Leta's wedding. Bill was a wonderful person and I enjoyed reading about his patients'
accolades on their good and compassionet doctor! I was blessed to be his friend!

I have known the Snow family as long as I can remember . Oleta worked for my dad in Trammell’s store. Spent many Christmas Eve’s together. Dr. Snow always had a smile and a wonderful laugh. After my mother Doedy lost her eyesight and I took her to church he always came up and barked at me because I was her guide dog. Doedy and I always looked forward to his visit on Sunday morning. I always knew him as Billy Bob and I will always remember him when I need a smile.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Dr. Snow. Your father was a wonderful man who dramatically impacted the lives of hundreds of students, staff and facility he served during his distinguished career. After retirement, Dr. Snow continued to serve our community and First Baptist Church of Mountain Home. Regardless of health challenges, he still managed to find a smile and a laugh to share with others. Thank you, Dr. Snow. You will be remembered.

Dr. Snow served as my mother's doctor, my wife's doctor, my doctor, and my son's doctor for a combined total of 145 years. I can still remember him making house calls in 1965. Words are simply not sufficient to convey what a wonderful doctor and a wonderful man . His contributions to this area are something to behold. My deepest sympathy to all of the family.

Melissa, Mandy and Elaine, I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear Dad. I knew Uncle Bill as a kind hearted, compassionate and loving person. I always admired him, he was a Doctor who everyone knew and along with that wondrous stories of how he helped them and had delivered many of their babies. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He was an avid reader, I remember my visit to their home in the evening he would retreat to the bedroom and would read for hours. Books lined the room walls. I always enjoyed my visits to see Bill and Leta they were always so gracious and made sure I enjoyed my visit. I know in my heart that Leta and Bill are together again it gives me peace. You will be missed Uncle Bill, you were a true Southern Gentleman.

There are no words GREAT enough to describe Dr. Snow. If you had the honor to be his patient, you were blessed.
He was my doctor until he retired. I always tried to convince him just be my doctor again - it never worked.
I am so thankful that i knew him and his wonderful family.

I want to convey my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, past patients (many many patients) and every person in the medical community who was privileged to have known and worked with Dr. Snow.
My earliest memories of him was as a brand new nurse when I'd have to call him at all hours of the day about one of his patients. He was always calm and patient on the phone. That's very much appreciated as a new nurse. He was also very good at using interactions with him for teaching.
As a patient myself I saw him a couple times when Dr. Cheney wasn't available. He had a good bedside manner and truly cared about you when you saw him. He remembered people, and was happy to call you out and have a short conversation wherever you ran across him. He and his partners with Mountain Home Medical Group were cut from a different cloth than most doctors today.

He was the kindest Doctor that I have ever had. I had him for over 25 years. We moved and I still drove 50 miles to see him.I would have drove more. He was a jolly guy and so kind to my family. I missed him when he retired and I will miss him now. Prayers and love to the family. He was a great man.

Dr Snow delivered my last two sons. He made them weigh Heath 3 times because he couldn't believe he weighed almost 10 lbs!! with Timothy he said not on 4th of July, Faye! I have plans! Tim listened be cause he was born exactly 9 minutes before the Fourth of July!!! Dr. Snow was a joy and a very caring caring doctor but no nonsense. he took great care of our Gramma Eula.Holden to the ripe old age of 100 years young! He leaves behind such a wonderful legacy that he wasn't even trying accomplish. It was just him, simply following his dreams, taking care of his patients and most of all his beloved family!
